We have steadfast rules. Politics and religion are not discussed. Period.

And once the Blessing has been said, the religion part is over with!

My stepdaughter is coming to fix dinner. She's even further right wing than we are.... and gets lots of conspiracy theory stuff off the dark web. I try not to get her going on that stuff. Granddaughter is coming too and she is conservative.

But if I was having dinner with Mom and the middle Bro, both libs (oldest Bro is banished from my life), there is the same rule. It is usually honored.

But the problem that I see in years past, is that my lib friends have become leftists. And they are so fanatical, so righteous, that they just won't keep their mouths shut and will go on the attack each time I'm around them. So I'm not around them any more... I got real tired of the yelling and anger/frustration. Not for holiday dinner, not anytime at all. Never. I'm done with them.

But family is different... too much bad feelings that will be permanently around. I won't risk it by bringing shit up, I hope they wouldn't either. But if they did, I would try to shut it down quickly.

It seems recent Novembers have been contentious at the turkey dinner table when family and friends gather. Last year, it was the election, years before, it was simply Trump, and now we have Rittenhouse and the parade terrorist attack. My wife and I last sat down with leftists in 2016, my wife and I were the only conservatives at the table, and we'll never do it again. This year, we have turned down an invite to drive to Austin (some leftists from my brother-in-law's side are invited), it is just the two of us at home this year. How about you guys?
Gotta get my helo pilots license first.

    Axx,

I'll bet you do, but aren't aware of it.

Unless, you don't know any democrats...?

The old 'blue dems' aren't quite all gone, but most are...they weren't commies.

At my age, 69, I knew a few old line libs.... they weren't commies. Just softies for the most part. At least they were honest about what they thought and willing to have a rational discussion. Actually, such discussions were valued.

I was a young adult during the heyday of the Hippies. Most were kinda OK. Just goofy stoners, dreamers, and loafers. But a few were radicals such as the SLA etc. Those people are running this country now. Bummer.

I have a first cousin who for many decades I have kept up with through email.

The last email I got from her she wanted to know if I've gotten 'the jab'. (She got one immediately after they were available)

Without any sort of rancor, I informed her no, no jab for me and have no plans to get one.

This was our last email exchange and that is probably quite literal...

It's too bad too as she was the closest thing I have to a sister, but her left leaning has increased over the years as mine has to the right.

In the past, we stayed away from discussing politics, (for good reason) but after subtly informing me she supports blm and the jab mandate we have almost nothing left in common except a love of reading...sigh.

She's the only leftist I could tolerate as in the past we always shied away from discussing politics, but for reasons I don't understand she now wants to introduce it.

Such introduction can only cause a rift in our relationship which didn't have to happen, but I guess the national polarization of the left and right has motivated her.

    Too bad...for both of us.

HIPAA rule = NOYB. Problem solved. :what:

That's too bad. It seems that Covid has phucked up a lot of people beyond those that it has killed. The rhetoric/agenda is one of complete control and people that should know better are just eating it up!!!

One of my best friends died from Covid Fri night, got it from family at elk camp... I'm not even sure there will be a service/memorial, or if there is, would I get the Rona since they've ALL been exposed or have had it.

Most of the Democrats I knew were on my mother's side of the family. They were very liberal in their opinions, but not commies in the least.

Sadly, most all of my mother's family have passed, and I have maybe a few distant cousins that live several states away.
