2022 Snake Spotting Thread

Nothing yet, but I had to walk out to the truck last night and went back into the house for a flashlight when I stepped outside and realized it was dark!

Last one I saw was 11/29/21.
Diamondback. About 3.5'
Used what I had. 12ga 00 buck puts a divot in a Farm to Market Rd.

I think I'll put birdshot batting 3rd till next winter.

I load mine with #7 birdshot and it will put and end to a snake in a hurry!

It was late November.
I wasn't hunting birds or snakes.
I was shocked I even saw one.

Well it was a very warm November last year.

I guess that being the only buzz tail I'd seen in a year caught me off guard.

We baled hay into the middle of November last year. Possibly could have gotten more cutting if we had needed the hay. We still have hay left over from last year.

I'm pretty sure as warm as it was last year, it probably delayed the snakes going into hibernation.

My ridgeback is going crazy hunting moles. She lowers her head to the ground and intently listens. Then, she pounces on them and hurriedly digs like she has gone nuts! She has killed two in the last few days - that I know of.

Not reptilian, but certainly strange-looking critters!

Do you rent her out? Extra if she kills gophers too!

Went out to the country this weekend to help Pop clear the fence line. I thought we would miss the snakes being active. I was wrong.

Weedeater got a small grass snake along the foundation the other day.

I'm kind of surprised at not seeing any snakes so far.

Found a dead grass snake laying upside down On my sidewalk. No bug poison out, someone must have stepped on it.

Ran across another diamondback in my son's backyard yesterday. That one met his demise at the end of my 410.

I did not. I try to be a live and let live kinda person.... it was a few miles from the house.

I hunt in Central Texas in an area that is famous of lots of rattlers. In 4 years I have not seen a single one.

That would be great. Smallish one for a cowboy hat. I bet that one would have worked great.
