Maverick 88 is truly under appreciated

Played around with one last time I went to the gun shop. A little rough around the edges, but still a VERY solid gun. For the price, you can't beat it.

That’s a fact. Very good shotgun for not a lot of money.

I believe that Mossberg still makes them in Eagle Pass, TX too.

Mexico, with assembly in Eagle pass. Great guns, just wish they'd use regular 500 style controls
They truly are an under-appreciated shotgun. essentially a no frills economy Mossberg 500. I have owned a few of them, and still own one currently. They are solidly made, reliable, and some parts will inter-change with the Mossberg 500. They are a good value for the money spent.

One I bought new for just over $200 and both of the used ones for less than $150. I can highly recommend them for someone that wants an inexpensive pump shotgun for home defense, hunting or sporting purposes.

We had a violent incident in a control room. Blood everywhere. Then professional crime scene cleanup and then the proper primer and repainting. This was concrete and grouted solid block walls, ofcourse, but every few months even 4 years later the spray pattern would show thru the paint. I had it painted 3 times in one year. Didnt want my officers to relive that mess.

The only thing I could figure was iron in the blood? Or Haunted. So I went with iron in the blood reacting with the specific environment of concrete possible sealer and the sun hitting that wall just right. Maybe the specific paint and primer used? They were supposed to be for covering such stains.

Recommendations for quality, reasonable cost, reliable, ease of handling home defense shotgun and type of non-lethal load with potent stopping power. Prefer buttstock model. Thanks.
I've been very happy with my Mossberg 12 Gauge Shockwave. Of course, I have tricked it out with a ported barrel, rails, laser sight, flashlight, and armbrace. Ironically, I haven't fired it for nearly five years; When I test fired it, it was 100% reliable and with the original grip, controllable for full bore 00 buckshot. I keep it loaded with #4 buck, and it is my goto gun if anything strange ever goes bump in the night. The range where I am a member now (finally) has a shotgun patterning station, so I hope to take it out before the end of August.

Concrete, and mortar, vs. drywall. Two different substrates that will need different methods of painting to hide things, and maybe different types of paints or primers.

Purely guessing on my part though.

I have 88's and buckshot but never use it for HD. Watched some blog about AR for SD. I get the guy's point - however - the fact he forgets to mention is that it has a longer sight radius and is 'aimed' and shoulder fired! You 'can' easily hit what you aim for, doesn't help much at NIGHT. Look at some hunting sites and results of B.S. on hogs. Passthrough of many pellets on BIG hogs. BIG mess. Yup, can be cleaned up. My house is in high density city with exterior brick. Several rooms and halls. Try maneuvering in that with a shotgun! Or AR! For MY application, 40sw double stack SA/DA works. High end gun for S.D.? You probably will lose it if used. If more rural, other choices.

Personally, I happen to prefer a shotgun for home defense. It suits my needs and wants the best for me. If a pistol works better for you, then that is probably your best option.

I do live in a very rural area of our county, so my option are probably much better than someone living in town or an apartment.

I do recommend a shotgun for home defense, but each person needs to look at their unique and specific needs to determine what is best for them.

Everyone needs to evaluate their own needs & set up. If a double stack pistol is what you determine fits the bill then that’s what you run with.

What make is your .40? Not many would choose a traditional da/sa pistol.

Have you bought a shotgun yet?
I'd say anything made by mossberg or Remington will be reasonable and cost effective. Buy used to save money. Regardless what you pick up, train with it and you'll have ease of handling. Training is part of the investment with firearms for self-defense. If it just sits in the safe, you won't be able to handle it as well when you need it.

And with what others have previously said, you might want to rethink non-lethal rounds. Regardless what you shoot at another person, in court just the fact you had used a firearm it will be deadly force, "non-lethal" inside bedroom distances will still have a high chance of being lethal. Training and confidence in your skill to stop the bad guy will be better than relying on specialty rounds and hoping for compliance.

I have a Shockwave with 00 within arms reach of my chair, an early 80’s 870 18 inch with low recoil 00 and a Knoxx for the wife, and a Nova tactical with 00 in the son’s room. All 12ga.

    Everybody carries too.
Do you have a light on it? I'm looking for ideas
