Once a Marine, always a Marine. I've hung around a few of them and even have one in my family. Every time I've ever shot with any of them they all shoot almost that good.

That's hilarious propaganda that doesn't fly with me. I've out shot plenty of marines, including active duty. This guy was the best pistol shooter I've ever seen.

Look if you want to peddle your 200 BC Spartan code shit feel free, but I know better. What do I know, I'm just another dumbass civilian.

Wasn't there a guy on one of the seasons of Top Shot that was like that. All the pros kind of looked down at him, until after a few rounds when he outshot them.

Some people have a misconception, that just because a person was in the military or LE, they must automatically be proficient with firearms.

I have found that to be patently untrue for the majority of those.

I always cite this video every time some bro vet or old fart cites some ancient or military style rifle qual BS as some sort of "achievement"

A lot of trainers or instructors like to cite their military or LE experience as a qualifier of their profieciency for being a trainer or instructor. Just because a person was in either, or even both doesn't automatically make them an "expert" with firearms. Lots of people were in the military and never touched a firearm again after bsic training. My father spent one day on the rifle course, and one day on the pistol couse during basic training in the Air Force, then never fired another round during his time in the service. My father is pretty damn good shooter, but it wasn't from his military experience.

I’ve seen both military and LE and the qualification minimums aren’t much harder than the LTC. I qualified Expert in the Army and I was not that great. Remember that your being compared to everyone shooting and, as per mathematics, half of them are below average.

My kid can shoot that good....on a good day.

He is about 90% on a steel silhouette at 100 yards.

He runs a match gun he built but can pick up a Shield or whatever and do the same thing. He will be the first one to tell ya that "its not the gun, its the mechanics."

BUT, he has shot gazillions of rounds. (and replaced barrels)

We had an old worn out steel CZ one day at the indoor range. I think it was 17 in the mag. Saw him put all 17 in the 9 at 10yds as fast as he could pull the trigger.

I took a hipoint 9mm carbine to the indoor range one day and saw him put the second round right through the first one at 7yds.

Mamma can put up nice groups. She's patient about it. Beats me hands down.

    Good times.

After 8 years in the AF the only firearms I touched were my own. The closest I got to a military gun was when I drove through the gate and saw an MP.

your average grunt to be fair doesnt know his head from his ass in most cases, but yeah qualling expert in LE/MIL settings might as well be saying one is qualified to go rally racing in a 92 Geo Metro cuz they got their drivers license lmao.

The way I see it, is this way. Even IF they were an "expert" in the military or LE, (say some field such as an operator like a Navy SEAL or similar.) that "expertise" doesn't always translate to being useful or needful for civilians.

What? You mean your average civilian couldn't become a John Wick? Sure, mess with my fantasies.

with enough practice anyone can get good at shooting, but shooting targets the size of a jeep at camp lejune or whatever doesnt really contribute to getting good.

Was the target dead afterwards? Certainly with practice I would like to get better, but I know as I grow older I'm not going to get to where I was 30 years ago. Same with welding. While I can still lay down a very nice bead, I know that they won't look quite as nice as they did 30 years ago.

I tell my students, "If I can get you to where you weld better than me, I've done my job well".
