I rank those fart cans up there with stick-on Buick type fender ports that nobody can seem to put on straight and the Autozone chrome trim that is bought by the roll and folks apply it to every wheel arch and door edge on the car. Or, the fake aluminum racing fuel doors that so many 3rd and 4th owners stick on their ride. For honorable mention, there’s the aftermarket chrome grills that are so popular at the flea markets. You know, the ones with vertical spindles that do not follow the lines of any Fords or Chevys I see with them. Gotta have tacky. Without it, life would be boring.

I was looking at some full sized trucks a few years back. I found a real clean, nice used truck. Popped the hood and it was a V6. The salesman argued about it being great on gas. I just couldn't
My tastes have changed the older I’ve gotten. I would consider a V6 truck as long as it was a stick shift and NA. We managed just fine through the malaise era with anemic wheezing powertrains. The FI V6 of the last 25 years is probably as good as any of the small blocks prior to that. I‘m talking stock, unmodified.

Lately I've noticed this more and more. People, usually teenagers, buy your typical muscle cars; Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers, etc. But they buy them with 4-cylinder engines then put super-loud exhausts on them. Every time they take off from a stoplight they floor it. It's incredibly tinny, raspy and loud but the car is barely moving. It's obnoxious as hell. It seems all they care about is the noise, not the performance. And they apparently think that's the cool thing to do.

Nothing wrong with smaller engines. A lot of custom builders are using the Ford EcoBoost 3.5l turbo V6 for their projects. Dead stock the basic version delivers 330 hp. Highly modified they can generate nearly twice that.

Nothing new. Since cheap 20yo Civic 4 bangers became the inexpensive teen car, they've been putting fart cans on those for years. I'll agree with others regarding the bass they place in those too. Nothing like sitting next to one at a light and you hear the metallic rattle of all body panels.
I was at a stop light in Houston and the guy in front of me had one of those bass kicking stereos. He also had a license plate frame that looked like it was made of chain.
I laughed my ass of when a few links fell off as a particularly loud bass beat shook the car.

Bullshit. I ran cutouts at the header in high school. Those mufflers couldn’t touch the noise I made. It’s teenagers being teenagers. Let them be.
Oh ya, head the Galaxie to Santa Fe Road, Pull the header cutout dump open, Wind up the 428 to about 4,500 and dump the clutch.
