A short stroke f1 engine probably has the same piston speed at 12k that or longer stroke normal motors have at 5. An f1 engine has 1.55 inches of stroke compared to a 350 with 3.5 inches. 12krpm and 5200rpms have the same piston speed respectively.
This. I just looked up the numbers: my GT350 has a stroke of 93mm and redlines at 8250. My GSXR750 has a stroke of 47mm and redlines at 14,500. My old V10 has a stroke of 105.8 and redlines around 6000.

Back in the 90’s some Japanese sport bike engine designs were limited by approaching max piston speed. These engines are crazy over square compared to automotive engines.

Lately I've noticed this more and more. People, usually teenagers, buy your typical muscle cars; Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers, etc. But they buy them with 4-cylinder engines then put super-loud exhausts on them. Every time they take off from a stoplight they floor it. It's incredibly tinny, raspy and loud but the car is barely moving. It's obnoxious as hell. It seems all they care about is the noise, not the performance. And they apparently think that's the cool thing to do.
We're on the same page bro. Yeah it pisses them off when they can't beat my 4Runner.
To make it worse a lot of them wannabe rodders don't know squat about tuning.
They seem to enjoy revving hell out of engine then backing off then the damned things are popping like crazy.
    Run them WAY too lean.
I am comforted by the knowledge that piston and/or valve failure isn't too far in the future.

Akin to clamping a baseball card into your bicycle spokes. Less expensive with more noise.

Was on 99 yesterday with a kid making a LOT of racket with his PowerFab Autosports tuned Silverado that didn't seem like it was even accelerating.

I remember flipping the top of the air filter cover over on my moms 70 Impala V8 with a 2 barrel.

Get on the gas and it went BA-WAAAA.
    That was about all, lol.
The last 2-barrel I owned was a mid-60s Rambler with a straight 6. It didn't matter what you did to the air intake, it didn't cycle enough air through the engine to be audible.

The guys at school would back up to a curb and rev their engines to make noise. I tried it once. The only thing I got was an inch-high conical pile of soot directly beneath the exhaust outlet.

Garbage cars are their own unique sort of reward. They make you feel like you've accomplished something every time you manage to actually arrive at a destination.

Every new driver should spend a couple years with a total shitbox of a car and a mish-mash box of tools. So tough, but still fun.

I was looking at some full sized trucks a few years back. I found a real clean, nice used truck. Popped the hood and it was a V6. The salesman argued about it being great on gas. I just couldn't.
    I have an in-line 6. However , it would do a 4 wheel burnout.
