We got fed up with JSCFCU when they changed the name to Wellby. What the crap is a Wellby? I transferred funds to USAA and am not satisfied at all. Then tried Penfed and that is the most worthless CU I have ever tried. Penfed won't let me transfer my money to another bank. WTF? It's my money and they won't let me have it? USAA is almost as bad. I tried to transfer from savings to checking, 2 different times a couple of days apart, and all they can tell me is that the transfers are pending. On what? It's one account to another in the same CU. It's been 4 days now and the transfers are still pending. How on earth do they still operate while doing shit like this?

They all suck honestly, I gave up on credit unions when they told me federal law says I have to remove my hat and not allow to wear 1 inside any branch. In the same breath they told me I should open an account with them, I told him eat shit as I left wearing my hat. I was only there to pick up money from a customer and quickly retrieved and left.

Banks also suck and have only gotten worse, wish this wasn’t the case but it is.

Ya they all pretty much aren’t that great. I’ve got a TDECU acct, but they proved troublesome with money transfers. What pissed me off was during Covid they shut down for a few months. The ATM was behind locked door inside the building, and the nearest branch with a drive through was like a 20 minute drive with tolls. Screw that. It’s now just a dump for tax refunds, PayPal use, or anything else I don’t want tied to our main bank. Smart Financial Credit Union is okay. They’ve got several locations in the greater Houston area, Conroe, Pearland, Kingwood. Interest rates on savings accts sucks. I don’t think it’s even 0.5%, but the bill pay and ability to transfer in and out to other accts is good. Chase sucks because they have too many hitches in order to get a maintenance free acct, and they nickel & dime you for every little thing, Wife keeps an acct there only because she’s been with them for 20 years or something. Capital One is one of the least slimy of the big banks IMO. They are able to deposit international checks into my acct as a courtesy, whereas Chase and Wells Fargo have a fee to do that, and the CU can’t do it at all. They also have no foreign transaction fees if you use their credit card oversees. Wells Fargo sucks. Used them when I was young and naive. Mailed the mortgage while at the same time wife was writing checks at the stores. They all hit the same day, and the bank cleared the checks largest first in order to pad profits, so we ended up with $75 in overdraft charges instead of just $25 if the smaller checks all cleared first. Dropped them after that and will never consider going back. That was almost 30 years ago.. I’ve heard good things abt Navy CU, but I’ve never looked into the requirements to join or locations

No, banks are regulated by whom? My small bank here sucks in it's hours of operation. Then again my small town bank is friendly & not like dealing with the phuctards that work in most banks.

Maybe 5 years ago, I was being examined by TSA at the airport (I refuse to go through the scanners) and the agent said, "Sir, I need to ask you a question. I noticed in your wallet that you use Wells Fargo." I responded, "What does that have to do with anything?" The agent said, "Well, I've been using Bank of America and they suck. I just wanted to know if Wells Fargo is better." I was shocked that we were having this conversation at all, but I told him, "No. They both suck. They will screw you over intentionally and they will do it with incompetence."

A couple years ago, I found someone's ATM card at a gas station near where I worked. The people who operated the gas station were a bit shady in my estimation, so I didn't turn the card into them. It was a Woodforest National Bank card, and there are branches all around here. So the next day, I went to the nearest branch (Shenandoah) that was close to my travel to work. I waited a few minutes for them to open, then went into the lobby and walked over to a teller. I was shocked when she rudely told me I'd just have to wait until she was ready. I tried to explain, but she cut me off. Then some sort of supervisor came by and told me not to wait by the tellers before walking off. Meanwhile, the security guard was eyeballing me like I had prison stripes on. I got angry and started to leave, but a pretty lady at a desk motioned me over. I explained that I was just dropping off the found card as the security guard rapidly closed the distance towards me. That lady was very nice and even apologized for the rudeness of the others. The guard ended up opening the door for me and thanking me. I think I don't need to say that I won't open an account with Woodforest.

That experience sucks for sure. We’ve had really good luck with Woodforest. We fired BOA a number of years ago after firing Wells Fargo. Moved all of our vast riches over to Woodforest because they did not take tarp funds when everyone else was scrambling for that government money. We’ve had really good luck with them.

We use a local credit union (a few branches in the county, but small). No major issues. A couple of minor frustrations. Still better than a bank.

We use the local bank. Friendly folks know me by name and no hassles ever. But then again here in The big Town everyone's friendly, even tot the dang tourists. They handle all my needs. Also have a USAA account that the FIL (RIP) insisted the wife open when we moved back to Texas. They are OK but only have one location that you can walk into and it is a bother. They like all stuff done over the interweb, but since use it a a place to park some funds it works for us. Bottom line is big banks and most CU's stink, find a local bank in your hometown.

We have USAA, Navy FCU and RBFCU - all have their pros & cons. If I had to rank them, I'd say RBFCU, Navy FCU then USAA.

YMMV - but our experience is that USAA will screw you 6 ways to Sunday with home owners insurance. Their auto was really good, but we dropped them for all insurance based on the way they treated us and a neighbor after our homes took damage from a tornado.

We use Truist and another bank but the wife won't tell me which one. We also keep a few dollars in the safe, but here again, the wife keeps changing the combination and I have a hard time figuring out what it is

So. all I know for sure is that we have never had any issues with Truist Bank.

PenFed has been pretty good for us - two mortgages, a refi, numerous savings accounts.

They only allow you so many bank transfers a month ($5K limit outbound on an external XFER); you can 'pull' any amount from another institution that you've certified with micro-deposits.

Outbound transfers can take five business days. You haven't said how they prevented you from accessing your money.
