Texas will be dropping state vehicle inspections in 18 months (except counties that have emissions inspection):

Cars registered in Texas after 2025 will no longer need to pass a safety inspection, but owners will still pay the fee

Cars in some of Texas’ larger counties will still be required to have their emission output checked.

Im not sure how I feel about that. There are too many irresponsible people, but I want government out too. When I was younger, a state inspection actually meant something - they looked at your brakes, fluid levels, seat belts, checked your parking brake... - Now I drive to a Jiffy Lube and they check my lights and see if I've got squirter fluid - done. Kinda worthless IMHO.

as part of the vehicle safety inspection all you do is inspect that the emissioncomponents are preseent

My Buick wouldn't pass any kind of modern safety inspection. Good thing it's exempted because of its age.

I'm glad, closest inspection station when it's open is over 50 miles away, PIA to say the least. A year or so ago the state closed several of the local one for one reason or another and the rest just quit, making it a 110+ mile drive one way mostly for them to say turn on your lights and blow your horn, here's you ticket you're good to go...

I think only about 10-15 do, just around the big cities.

Those were state run or at least realtime video montored. Quick fizzle on that one.

That will never happen as long as there are toll roads..toll authorities had the legislature make that happen so they can photograph your front plates incase they can't read the back plates.

They need to bring back headlight aiming, some of the new million candle power lights are horrible
