I had a similar experience at COSTCO.

I've been a loyal Sam's Club customer for 25 years and thought it might be nice to also have a COSTCO membership. So, I decided to check it out.

I walked into COSTCO with the idea that I could simply pay the membership fee, maybe sign a few documents, and start shopping. To my surprise, it wasn't that straightforward. I was presented with various membership tiers like Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and more. I was asked to fill out multiple documents, page after page, detailing all sorts of benefits. They even wanted to discuss potential future travel and incentives. Forty-five minutes later, I was feeling overwhelmed and just wanted to go home.

I informed the staff that I wanted to cancel the process as it was taking much longer than I had anticipated on a Saturday morning. Cancelling the documentation and initiation fees took another 30+ minutes.

In the end, it simply wasn't worth my time to go through such a lengthy and complicated procedure.
30+ minutes!?!? Get up and walk out! They can figure out what to do with the incomplete nonsense (I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have been the first).

I went back to Lowes this weekend and met some of the girls that were trying to fix my account last week
They said the whole company has stopped the promotion of changing accounts from DIY to Contractor due to the problem of wiping out the military discount
It was rolled out and not thought out ..
They are 'l"retraining " everyone on it now

From my experience, all the different Lowes account types have the same 10% discount, and they don't stack. I have the military benefit, my wife has a contractor account, and my daughter gets an employee discount. However, it's 10% no matter which accuse use.

Lowe's and Home Depot used to only give the discount on Veteran's Day. It was always up to the individual location to offer it year round. But that must have changed since adding veteran status to online accounts.
They told me the contractor account is not an established discount instead they have rewards based in purchases

As a vet I don’t feel entitled to a discount anywhere. Last i checked there wasn’t a “get a discount for service” in my contract or oath. Let democrats feel entitled and throw fits about crap. I’m embarrassed every time I hear or see another veteran asking for a discount.

Lowes used to use your phone number for vet discount, then went to IDme.com that requires your SS number. Nope, not me. State says I'm a vet, should be good enough for Lowes or HD. Many places, just ask and no question/ID at all. One restaurant gave me 50% off, I pay full there now, got my 10%.

Oh no! What ever will I do? Do you need a tissue, are you going to be okay? Grow up and go throw a fit like a Karen because you think being a veteran makes you special. Jesus Christ you admit to freaking out about a company not giving you a discount and lay out a saga of how they wronged you. Because as a vet you get a discount for life. Please what else do you feel entitled to? Should you cut lines, get a head pat for doing such a good job? You made an ass of yourself in public and make the rest of the veteran community look bad. You think that girl gives a **** or the manager? No you’re just another asshole vet. Thanks for that.

You don't have to be "entitled" to enjoy someone recognizing your service. My contract way back in 1967 for USMC I didn't even read. I was in HD a few years ago searching for light bulbs for the house. A woman appeared out of nowhere, stunned me. She then began showing me different bulbs for bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, explaining the importance of each, especially bathroom for wife's makeup, her words not mine. She used a gizmo that showed the light from each bulb then walked me to a cashier, her asking me if I was a veteran and she told the cashier to give me the veterans discount plus 10%. She was obviously someone important to HD and I never saw her again.

Many, many places honor your service, don't "discount" it. Each Chick-fil-A will honor it in some way, free fresh chocolate chip cookie, free ice cream, etc. Do not deny them the chance to show their appreciation.

I was just about to ask: 'What (as in how much) is the difference between the military discount and what I am guessing is their contractor's discount?' If it is the same discount for each, someone please explain what the big fuss is being made about.

I don't feel entitled to a discount for my military service but I don't turn down a discount when offered. If I see money on the ground I bend over and pick it up. I don't refuse my credit card discounts. I am "cheap".

I've taken the time to set up my discount at both Lowes and HD. More than a year lapsed before going into both, both times my discount couldn't be found. As I was leaving, with the item(s) sitting at the register, I told both of them to not waste my time and if they're going to offer a discount, it shouldn't be so damned difficult.
I was in Lowes today for a few items and they wanted to scan the back of my drivers license to get a military discount. My Lowes card has already verified my veterans status. I told them the few cents discount wasn't worth scanning my license and I would shop at Home Depot next time.
