    So, just to clarify; a thread can be ‘’locked’’ b/c
    The criteria for locking are occasionally spelled out in various places, e.g. the admonishment to lock threads after a classified ad is done. Mostly, though, it's a pretty squishy situation. It's one manifestation of the notion that the mods are trusted to cut off a thread that needs to stop.

    That's the reason I took note of the fact that Renegade had some valid points. It's almost always a judgement call in a situation not directly discussed in the written rules and, thus, it will be subject to differences of opinion.
