Very few lucky folks will actually be prepared for a real SHTF scenario.....some folks think they are, but in reality they aren't.

Hundreds of thousands of people will leave the urban areas in search of food in less than a week........large roving gangs will be on the move and they are armed. Your neighbors will not be prepared and could be potential adversaries.......total lawlessness.....

    I’m pretty much a ‘’shelter in-place’’ guy.

But, most of our homes are wood-framed & very flammable.

The “bugging-out’’ folks are not considering that, with our large cities, there would be millions trying
to do the very same thing, many of necessity.

Speak with your neighbors well in advance. Neighborhoods can benefit from organization and mutual aid/defense.

Ammo in common cartridges would be currency. And, jugs of water.

I recall Dad’s tales of the precipitous civilian evacuations from Berlin in Spring 1945. the Allies had anticipated
and had large convoys of food, medical support, water, & processing units on the way; but they were 2 or 3 days late.

I try to keep a couple months’ food, water, antibiotics, & ammo on hand; but it is tough to do all that may be needed.

And, my own Family members are likely to look to me.

My Texan Pioneer Ancestors tales of ‘’shooting ports’’ built into home walls and of sod roofs for fire resistance come to mind.

    Bonne Chance, mes Amis !

Why is putin still breathing and producing brain waves?

Why is xi doing the same?
Because Putin projects an air of authority and power. He is not a bumbling decrepit octogenarian moving woodenly when he walks, mumbles when he talks, looses his train of thought and gets lost leaving the stage.. Putin has brought the Russian people back from the ruins that followed the collapse of Soviet Communism. Understand that for the last hundred and ten years Russians have been as a society Trained and raised in Communism. It is all they know. Generally Russians like and admire Putin. Yes they are afraid of him too and that is a huge factor. Americans do not understand the mental process of fearing a leader and compliance within that fear. Unless you have ever lived in a Communist country any length of time you can not understand the mental conditioning. BUT-- IF Biden and Democrats win in 2024, 2026 and 2028 -- we will learn .

So when a round is sent and hits the target, the target goes down differently based upon if it is a rabble of thugs or a disciplined group of regulars?
The discussion was concerning whether one member of a gang going down would send the rest running.

Water requires electric pumps to push it through the pipes, unless you have large private elevated gravity-fed storage tank.

Grocery stores would have no perishables, get no deliveries.

Gas pumps wouldn't work....explains push to EV vehicles.
No electricity no EV's in a hurry.

Your home is not your castle!

In this country, modern building techniques are woefully inadequate to provide sufficient cover. Heck, most standard homes are barely energy efficient!

Our two homes in Germany and Belgium were concrete and stone, the former having 18 inch walls which could be hit by a Mack truck and you'd barely hear it!

Our house in Texas has three walls with stone facade which at best will slow a rifle round down enough to be somewhat less lethal although I'm not sure I'd bet my life on it!

To be honest, most people fantasize they are adequately protected based on attempts to improve their defenses. It's a waste of time and money for the most part.

At best you may survive an attack by an inept burglar. A determined adversary will have no problems penetrating your property. Just be well armed and address the threat.

This genius almost got in with only a pry bar and his fatness in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday...

Why he doesn't resemble Swiss cheese is beyond me! This target must have been one of those California transplants that have flooded that area of SA!

    Out here by the lake!
One of the things I really like about where I live is there is only one road leading into the subdivision. Sure there is water access but I just don’t see that as being the way most people in wonder hoards are going for.

The vast majority of people are retired and not going to be willing to giving up their hard earned possessions. My guess plenty are armed, more so than city liberals.

Where I live is far enough off the beaten path to really worry about it

My current home feels almost indefensible by just 2 occupants. Every one of the 4 walls have large windows.

If things hit the fan, this would not serve as a fortress at all. If under attack, I won't turn on the lights inside the house of course, but I have my hands full here. Installed a couple if cameras, but that's only good as long as you have wifi and power.

Any suggestions, or what are you doing if you're in a similar situation?
First of, unless your house is built out of boulders, otherwise 9x19 115 FMJ goes through two external and two internal walls like through the butter. This is per my own experiensce.

Heck, most newer homes are big on glass windows. Only thing in my house others would want is guns and ammo!

    This.

In Houston, if a severe SHTF event happens, or TEOTWAWKI, the masses will bug-out for safety and greener pastures, thousands of cars hitting the roads at once, some of them LEOs, doctors, etc. to protect their families. And many of those who choose to remain will be those up to no good; looting, raping, pure mayhem. Finding weapons, ammo, etc. Prisons and jails may be a moot concept by then, depending on the situation. Some of these people have spent lifetimes inflicting harm on humans, spent their lifetimes without a single regard for human life, or human morals.

If one is going to stay put and potentially fight this, they better have more than a few soldiers in their group.
