Would adding a few extra mods for the section be something to consider?

There are enough other forums out there for political discussion, no need to pollute this one when it is suppose to be focused on firearms and shooting in Texas.

The politics section has had its fair share of issues in the past, and you can bet that if it's reopened it will have many more in the future.

And there is no way it can be objectively moderated. Sorry, but any attempt to quell one person's opinion is going to be censorship; no matter how many people it pisses off.

It's one topic that needs to be kept separated from all the rest. If someone wants to start TexasPoliticsTalk.com then feel free to do so, but leave this forum focused on what's important!

    Cheers! M2

    I agree with this 100%.

Debate forces you to think for yourself and support what you say, or be embarrassed for being a moron who can't or won't. It also forces you to use self control and not be rude to others with differing points of view. That's healthy for society. People need to learn how to do that, and stop acting like babies. We are becoming a nation of babies the way things are now.

    Well said!

Ownership of a firearm, is an inherently political statement: I decide to exercise a natural right affirmed to me by the United States Constitution, while others in our society object to that right and actively work to deny my right to arms.

Any political section of a firearm forum ought to focus on gun rights issues of importance to members. If the political discussion strays from a debate of arms in society, then it ought certainly be steered in the correct direction by moderators or terminated.

If I remember correctly, that was one of the things that drew me to this forum in the first place -- a wide ranging discussion of political opinion.

Gun forums can be a powerful means to educate members and visitors alike about our God-Given natural rights, and to encourage all to read the Constitution.

The 2A, more than any other amendment or article guarantees all other freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

make it a separate forum - DONT moderate it - and put a warning on the folder that people can do/say what they want - and use the ignore feature as necessary

let it be the users headache and not the moderators......it's really easy

This is the way to go. The only other forum I frequent is a motorcycle forum and that's what they've done. It helps keep politics out of all the other sections and people know that if you're easily butthurt, stay the hell out of there. Political speech should be allowed in all areas of public.

Besides, how many lefties could we really have around here.

Doesn't take lefties to have a bunch of chapped asses. Take a look at any open carry thread.

It was a joke. Maybe we shouldn't have one since sarcasm seems to be lost here.

I vote yes... but only if you will assign a Mad Dog Moderator that will keep the peace once a thread goes to hell. I would also reinstate it with a 60 day trial period. That way once it spirals into total stupidity, you'll be able to axe it.

With the upcoming presidential election, it might be nice to have.

I vote yes. It's good to have civil discussion about those maters. Just need folks to put their big girl panties on before they start a discussion in that section.

It will require more attention from the mods than the rest of the site, I'm sure - and be an enormous pain in the ass.

For some odd reason, gun ownership in this country involves politics. Which is amusing, as we're the one nation that has not used our firearms to ensure the outcome of an election since we were founded.

But it does involve politics. There's no getting around that! Bringing back the political section will return to us an outlet to voice opinions on such matters and debate each other when we don't agree.
I like the idea of it being a private section open to members with a certain amount of posts.

Ultimately, it's the mods pain in the ass, and not ours. So maybe if we all want it, but none of the mods do, then it should stay gone.

It would be nice if you can make it work. I think its going to be a huge headache for you if you try. Either way
this is my favorite gun forum, so I'm happy either way!!

Well going to follow up without a quote. But, for me its hard not to involve politics or history when it comes to firearm ownership. Usually when I bring up history it wraps around politics again.

I probably wouldn't mess with the politics forum too much, but if responsible citizens of the forum wish to discuss politics, they should have the right & ability to do so.

Maybe it will even quarantine some topics that are likely to devolve into name calling and baseless conjecture...

I voted no, basically agreeing with Dcav. But then I'm mostly a lurker anyway.

As my handle suggests, I'm a chess player. About 16 years ago, for a variety of reasons, I quit playing competative chess. After that I thought I could do a relatively new thing and play chess on the internet. I hooked up, downloaded and learned the interface and the server commands, and i'm playing. Then I fould out what a**holes some people can be when they are anonymous.

I trudged along with this, off and on, for several years, until the 2008 election came along and suddenly, overnight it was IMPOSSIBLE to just log on to a chess server and play without being buried by the Obama chat monkeys. Didn't want to chat politics (or cars or electronics) there or here. If it comes back I hope there's a way to avoid it.

P.S. So 22 people here really want it back, and 15 really don't, and so. . . the other however many (hundreds, thousands) don't care?
