Its beyond me how a person can be afraid of a metal tube with some clock work at the end.

    Case in point:

My girlfriends dad is scary paranoid about firearms. Even though the freak has some. I downloaded a pic of a browning M2 to my facebook. He saw the pic and now believes I have a coaxial mounted machine gun in my living room. NO BS. So the facebook block list grows another name.

He never served in the military. He has deer racks hanging up....Now he locks up his guns. In a safe, with cable locks, in locked cases.

I firmly believe that CNN has brainwashed the man into an unrational fear of all things guns. He was like this before I ever met his daughter. So its not me. He firmly believes that his wife might shoot herself. His grandkids will shoot themselves. His kids will shoot themselves. Someone will break in his house....crack a safe, cut locks off the cases, cut cable locks.....and shoot him. WTF? His house has never been broken into. Its a $250K job in a super "white collar" neighborhood. Dog crap in the yard is the major crime of the place.:ohnoes:

Really? I have not a clue why he doesn't just sale the damn things and wait for china to put him out his misery. A F**king browning machine gun in my living room? Has he seen the price of 50cal ammo???

OMG the man rakes my last nerves

I would offer to buy them off him if i were you, kill two birds with one stone. He no longer has to worry about them climbing out of the safe to get him while he sleeps and you add more to your collection.

You find the same crap when you ride motorcycles. I started riding at 13 and bought my first bike (Triumph) at 17. Been riding ever since. I wish I had a Dollar for every person who told me cycles were dangerous then launched into a drawn out story about how they mounted up with no experience or training, crashed and they'll never ride again because motorcycles are dangerous.

I've crashed many times and broke a lot of body parts. If you ride dirt, that's going to happen. But it was ME who told that bike to climb an impossible hill, take a curve too fast or misjudged a jump. I did that and took my lumps for it. The bike had nothing to say about it!

It boils down to this: guns and motorcycles are evil and dangerous if I refuse to take responsibility for the bone headed decisions that I make. It's easier to trash the non thinking object rather than to admit that I F ' ed up. That's exactly why we have so many knot head Liberals trying to ban guns. They know they're F' ups and can't trust themselves to act responsibly or within the law.

Just post on your Facebook page that you had to sell the big Browning machine gun to some gang bangers at the local convenience store to raise cash to pay for an unexpected abortion.

Lets see how he reacts to that.

i been thinking about a bike lately, and ive heard all the stories about how being a "disabled" rider isnt safe at all from various people. I do however have one friend that thinks i am absolutely stupid and an idiot and all the other things for wanting to ride. He is however a proud gun owner though.

This is a classic case of the hunter that believes the non-existant "assault weapons" to be anything but a hunting piece, and likely would be offended personally by someone showing up at the camp with a semiauto. Fear is powerful, but it robs clear thinking. There is a reason the Bible says, "For we are not of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind."; fear destroys the soundness of the mind, and chains us to such poppycock.

I would never sell my guns to a crazy guy with a Browning machine gun! You sir can never bother contacting me on a sale!

I just think you should show him the definition of "coaxial" sometime.

Coaxial basically means that you have two things sharing an axis. IE, two guns that you aim together. Just what does he think that M2 is mounted to?

"Coaxial", as defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary, is something "having a common axis". It is an adjective.

What is so menacing about that?

My cousin is like that (from Cali imagine that). We were having a BBQ awhile back at my house and I bent over to pick something up and she saw my sig p226 stuffed in my iwb holster. She flipped out like full on bat shit crazy mode "why the hell do you have a gun!?! My kids are here don't you know that thing could just go off!?!" it got to the point where I had to tell her to either calm down or gtfo of my house and don't come back. Guns don't just go off for no reason.

My wife is terrified of guns. Seriously. Funny because she loves to watch shows like "I Survived", where victim survivors of unspeakable crimes tell IN DETAIL, about their experiences. But the minute I start talking about guns and try to get her to take on a defensive mindset, or learn to shoot to defend herself, she gets "scared". I don't get it one bit. I seriously had to "twist her arm" into learning how to shoot the Glocks. She came to the range with me once, I had her shooting mag after mag, 2 Glocks and a 38. I seriously thought that would help her overcome her fear, but it didn't one bit. I told her I'm pretty much convinced that she's deliberately keeping her mind closed off and deliberately keeping herself in fear of guns, just to not admit that maybe I'm right. She also thinks Felipe Calderon is a good president for Mexico. A man who started a drug war he was in no way prepared to fight, that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands in Mexico. Oh but he's "standing up to them" they say. Yeah, ok, if he really cared he'd let them have their fucking rights to keep and bear arms.

She's from Mexico, has never seen a gun till she moved here, and grew up under the impression only criminals have guns. Her parents would shit a brick if they knew I was armed at all. Get this, I bought my wife a can of pepper spray to keep on her side of the bed. Even though there is a 357 magnum on the other side. Why? Because she is so terrified of guns it's downright unsafe to leave one there expecting she's be able to use it in her own defense.

When I told her I was gonna start reloading, she literally started crying. Like seriously, I felt like such a jackass because I wanted to take on a new hobby.

So yeah, that's a non talkable subject in my house. That's why I get on gun forums so much lol...

Also, Facebook SUCKS. I seriously hate it. My account has been deactivated again, and this time it is permanent, I may start a new one for networking only. That is it.

Right now, guns are not a subject of conversation in this house, unless I wanna be in the doghouse. I told her I won't talk about guns anymore but I'm never leaving home without my Glock again, so just get used to it because that is not up for negotiation.

Also, Facebook SUCKS. I seriously hate it. My account has been deactivated again, and this time it is permanent, I may start a new one for networking only. That is it.

Damn, lol, I'm teaching my gf how to shoot my firearms, and how to clean them, assemble and disassemble.
I'm just working into her mindset we need a shotgun and a.r., especially a hunting rifle, since I want to go hunting.
At first she was terrified of my glock because of no safety, but she now prefers that over my 1911.

But not to get into your business, but before she said yes didn't she know about your gun hobby, etc?

    *bit of a read, sorry*

I wouldn't say my wife is scared of them but she just doesn't seem to get it. She's always saying that I already have too many and why do I need anymore (without going into specific numbers my collection is small), can't seem to understand me wanting to get my CCL or why I would want to have a gun beside the bed at night or in the car if we go somewhere. The thing is she grew up around guns, both her parents and brother have their CCL and multiple guns as well as a few from my family, her moms boyfriend reloads and we always go shooting at his ranch when we go home. I've taken her to the range and she had fun, she loves to go out and get some hogs when we go home, I even took her out at the ranch this weekend and helped her with her stance and grip with my 1911. She likes to shoot, but has an attitude about it most of the time, will fire something once and dismiss it because she didn't like it (like my SIG P250) fine she likes the 1911 better so do I but this is one of the firearms in our house I'd like you to at least be comfortable with it even if you don't like it that way you could use it if ever need be. I'm slowly working on changing her mind (with help from her own mother) but it seems like anytime I start talking about I'd like to get a good bolt action .270 or .308 of some sort before hunting season starts this year as this will be the first time I've been home in Texas for deer season in quite some years and she'll immediately jump to the "you already have enough guns" argument and doesn't understand why I'd want another caliber firearm for specific game and not use my AR or 12 gauge. It's really frustrating at times but as long as she still enjoys shooting from time to time I think I've got a chance at coming around, if not hey at least my in laws will stand by me.

On topic a little better I came across the people freaked by guns all the time when I lived in southern California, especially one of the girls my wife made friends with who lived in our apartment complex and was around our age, she was your typical California stoner chick and lord help you if you had a different point of view or opinion about something than she did luckily all of my Marine buddies were also into guns so I had friends to go shoot with. Not sure if any of you are familiar with the "I Love Guns And Coffee" thing but I thought it was a cool idea to support Starbucks on the day there was supposed to be a boycott of them by anti gun groups becaused they refused to ban guns on their premises. The plan was to wear your I Love Guns and Coffee shirt and carry if you could and go buy something, anything from Starbucks and tell them why you were there supporting them. I did this along with my empty holster into the closest one (southern orange county) and boy the looks I got made me kind of uncomfortable, I ordered my coffee and the baristas seemed to get quite a kick out of my shirt and after I told them about it and why I was there wearing it they thought it was a cool idea. It's really sad that Cali has a lot of clueless or just plain stupid people living there and some of the worst gun laws in the country because it's beautiful there and the weather is amazing, there are some really good people out there as well who are into guns as much as us and are constantly battling to get their rights restored or at least stop them from taking them all away. Another forum I frequent though not as much since I'm back in Texas is Calguns.net if you want more insight as to real gun owners in Cali that's the place to get it from, they also helped me out immensely when I was trying to grasp the laws and keep myself out of trouble. Sorry I went off on a bit of a long rant followed by two plugs but once I started typing it just didn't stop.

I would be more worried about the fact that your girl friend's father is checking out your Facebook page.

Have you ever sat down with him and had a normal conversation?

Remember the princess in North Carolina who publicly dissed her father on Facebook?

He shot the little girl's laptop with a .45 Auto in his back yard.

Old men don't fight -- they shoot.

Mom was raised around guns in a volatile home. She's shot them previously, and had one supposedly pointed at her by a gang banger in the early 90s. She will not allow a gun into this house, and will throw a panic attack, but fully supports responsible carry, open or concealed. Strange thing is she loves my machetes, and even remarked, "Let someone break in with this. I'll mess them up...."
It is not sensical at all.

Ignorance is behind most people's fear of guns. The "You never know when one of those things might go of and kill us all" message the media spouts doesn't help any.

There are also just people who are not going to be comfortable around guns no matter what. My wife is a very soft spoken and sweet person. She shoots and knows how to handle a gun (quite well)... she just would rather not. I respect that. Flip side is that she encourages me to buy / shoot / enjoy mine. She even buys ammo when she's out shopping.

I didn't have a gun hobby when we got married. That is a fairly new thing (I had a few things I needed to clear up and didn't buy my 1st gun until last November). I always said I wanted one and that one day I'd be getting one. I also said that one day I'd be getting several, so it was no secret that I had every intention on arming myself. I did buy more guns in a fairly short time period though (I've bought 7 since November, and sold 2 so I have 5 now). I told my wife I was gonna get an AR-15 one day, then 2 weeks later I'm snapping it together at my dining room table. (I've been called an insensitive asshole once or twice in my life, not by her though, but sometimes I wonder if it is not true).

I mean most people's wives would only be complaining about the $$$, mine, it's just because there are guns in her house. So yeah, there is a conflict of interest in my home but when it comes down to it, us not being a victim(s) is more important to me than most other things.

She's fine as long as I don't talk about my guns, or handle them in front of her. She's admitted she would rather block it out of her mind that there are guns here, and that me not holding them in her sight makes a difference. So I can live with that, even though it is silly. My wife is affected by taboo quite noticeably. We're talking 2 VERY different cultures here. One deep Southern white boy with blonde hair, blue eyes, a serious profanity problem and a fascination with things like guns and other things people bitch and complain about regularly. And am married to a girl to whom the USA is a foreign country, from a VERY devout Catholic Mexican family (they're all Spanish, my wife is a white girl from Mexico), who still has a ways to go before perfecting the English language and getting citizenship. She's a software engineer who was contracted to work here from a consulting company she worked for in Mexico.
