Hear it's better than the "6 point blow".
    7.3 was bullet proof, though.

Um, that's the Power Stroke diesel that was used from 08-10. You've never heard of it?

Drinks diesel like it's going out of style because of the dpf system, my buddy had a f450 for about a year and it was in the shop about 9 times for electrical issues, I think his was an 09 with 30,000 miles on it. They supposedly worked all the electrical bugs out but it still has the dpf on it.

The 6.0 was a total POS. We have or had 8 of them and being a Ford man at the time, I swore off buying another Ford until they get their Diesel right.

I hear the 6.4 wasn't much better. It was only used for a couple of years, I would stay clear of it myself. I will not even trust the 6.7 until they have been on the road a few years.

I'd buy a 7.3 with 300k miles on it before I would buy a 6.4 with 100 miles on it. When they go down, there is nothing cheap about fixing one.

Anything from with a DPF is a ticking time bomb in my opinion. All the 08 fords in the company I work for have gone to crap and constant DPF problems, the Chevy I'm in now is constantly trying to stop up and won't regen with a check imagine light on which is constantly happening due to it not leaning out in the first place so I have to keep a code reader in the truck to clear it at all times. I hate everything about DPFs. We did get a couple new fords that use the DEF blue stuff but I still don't trust them to last like a 7.3.

I own a 2008 F450 with the 6.4l and have actually pulled with it unlike many diesel owners. That being said, avoid it like the plague. Mine has 120k on it and is on it's fourth engine. I maintain it properly and do not overload it and it is still a POS. First engine lasted 75k, second to 113k, and brand new crate engine lasted to 116k. Apparently someone left a bolt laying in the intake manifold of the crate engine. The other two including the current engine were torn apart and they just replaced what was needed. Ford has payed for all the repairs under a free extended warranty but what does that matter when you are sitting on the side of the road? They say they can replace an engine in two weeks but my shortest down time has been a month. The truck has had the cab off it about 15 times doing repair work and now the bolts and fittings are not holding properly. Ofcourse that stuff is not covered by warranty. My truck has been in the shop about 30 times for a total of about 8 months of its life. The first engine replacement put it down for four months between the repair itself and having the repair repaired four more times.

The big problem is there is no fix for this engine. The 6.0l has many kits available to make it into a decent engine after you spend thousands of dollars on it. I wish it was that simple for this engine. There are a couple things you can do to help but they will all void my warranty. I am stuck.

Run away from it. If it is a good deal for the truck now you know why. If you want a good deal on one PM me. I would love to sell mine.

There is nothing cheap about maintaining a Diesel vehicle. A repair bill for engine work hits 2k very quickly.

Heard the 6.7 is a beast. Never ridden in one tho.

I hear many good things about them also. Great power and better mileage. I know many happy customers. The urea system needs to be refilled about every oil change and only takes a gallon as I understand it.

Had experience two 6.4's. One truck is on the third motor and I sold the other one. Both trucks were replaced with 2012's with the 6.7. We bought tuners and removed the enviro-crap, and yes, they now blow black out the back. These trucks are awesome so far and they both run like a bat out of hell and tow anything.
