...Harris County Smokehouse is like bad cafeteria food. You have to go with Goode Company for BBQ. As far off as TXSUT is with BBQ...

It's funny that you and I are "polar opposites" on Harris County and Goode Co. I have eaten at every Goode Co BBQ in town, and think the same thing....bad, greasy, cafeteria food.

With it being such a subjective issue, nobody can be wrong. It's all just opinions.

I should have mentioned that Harris County serves a good breakfast. You have to get the ribs and pecan pie at Goode Company. Hard to beat.

The wife hates BBQ, but we regularly eat @ Goode's Armadillo Palace. We use to eat @ Goode Company seafood until it became to $$$$. The palace has 1/2 priced appetizers & the Campenchana's totally rock. Both pies Pecan & Chocolate cream are great at all of Goode's places.

Given the location and the facade, I've always snubbed my nose at that place. Based on what you say, though, maybe it's time to give it a chance.

I'm going to pop in there for the prime rib one of these nights. Just waiting on a friend, also a prime rib lover, to have an opening in their schedule.

Rare with a mountain of horse radish, please!

    Best BBQ in Houston

For some of the best BBQ in Texas, Try Luling City Market, the original in beautiful downtown Luling Texas, then there is the non afilliated Luling City Market on richmond ave. in Houston which is run by the former manager/cook of the original. Both outstanding!

What about the County Line BBQ on Cutten Rd in NW Houston? I have heard people rave about the one in Austin, but have never eaten at either.

Best sauce I have ever had is at Hinze's BBQ in Wharton, Tx. It is about 40 miles southwest of Houston. They also have very good BBQ.

Skip breakfast and lunch. Have two or three beers. Go to dinner at any BBQ place and it will be some of the best doggone BBQ you've ever eaten.

The topic of who has the best BBQ, cheese enchiladas or CFS has probably resulted in an ER visit and stitches more than a few times.

Rudy's BBQ on 45 and Louetta isn't bad. I also eat at Charlie’s BBQ in Bellaire for lunch (it’s next door to SSQQ). Luling on Richmond isn't too bad either. Just get their early or you won't get a seat. County Line is OK. Mainly a family oriented place so it’s crowded on the weekends.

    Steaks
I used to go to Sullivan’s with the wife a couple of times a year, but stopped after they kept charging me for refills on Diet Pepsi. It killed me, they can charge $50 for a steak, but can't give me a .50 refill for free. Morton’s was OK and is about as pricey as Sullivan’s. My ex-wife didn’t like rare meat, so the steak cart they wheeled around to show you the meat bothered her. Granted, she would also make me put a menu around my plate when I ate rare prime rib.

I know what you mean. i used to go a GREAT Korean BBQ joint. Good prices, great food, cute staff.. but they would chanrge 1.25 for a refill on a small glass of coke... after 3 or 4 refills each your out an extra 12 bucks. so i stopped going there.

No Name BBQ in Pasadena is one of those hole in the wall type places. Its made out of Conex containers and is one of the best around IMHO.

Is that right off 225? I stopped off at Grand Prize (iirc), off 225 and just before Beltway 8, a few months ago. The food was good. BUT, I'd love to find a place that was great.

    You're still alive?

Should have played the lottery that day.

"No name BBQ" sits across from the Pasadena Courthouse. It's an ugly cube of a building made out of shipping containers. You can't miss it. Just look for trucks parked on the feeder around lunch time.

That's what a friend from South Carolina said after eating there once. He said it sucked bad and shouldn't be called BBQ. That got me thinking ... where is the GREAT BBQ?

I ate the stuffed potato, maybe that's what saved me...

Well, pull out of the parking lot of the Grand Prize (it isn't and don't go there) and do a u-turn under the freeway. You'll see the stacked container building on the right after you get turned west. That is "no name BBQ" and if it's around lunch time, there'll probably be a big rig parked on the feeder next to it (and big trucks will definitely be in the parking lot there).

I'm partial to Hungry Farmer on Crosstimbers @ I-45 north. Huge stuffed baked tators with BBQ or turkey. They have great BBQ.
