    Are knives banned from college campuses in TX? I would have drawn one of my knives on the idiot and sliced a few tendons to put him down. Funny how the liberal media will probably try their hardest to keep this downplayed. After all, it's the evil assault rifles that cause kids to hurt one another, right?

    As long as the knife isn't prohibited or illegal they are allowed on campus.

    So, generally a blade that's sharp only on one side, is less than 5.5 inches and isn't a switch blade you can carry as it's not a weapon in the eyes of the law. This may vary though as some cities, such as San Antonio, have more prohibitive laws.

    Some campuses may, as a condition of being a student, further restrict knife carrying but that'd be campus by campus.

    One common theme I see in such crazy actions can be shown here and how few events like these happen: For a guy who spent his teenage years till he was 20 planning this type of rampage it shows how bent he was not causing more mayhem.

    Given any thought to this sane folks can see holes in his plan that ultimately kept the casualties down to a minimum here.

    That's what I figured. Well, I guess that rules out my khukri. :) If they won't allow students with CHLs to carry on campus, every kid should at least carry a folder or small fixed blade in case of an event like this. I probably would have a lodged a textbook at him to distract him as I ran up on him with my P'Kal or LaGriffe.

    I've often thought at church that if someone came in to do bad everyone throwing a hymn books would deter the actions of the person.

    I don't see why they aren't already. I can draw and deploy my neck knife or waved pocket knife in less than a third the time it takes to pull a switchblade out and hit the button. Heck, you can legally carry a switchblade in CA for goodness sake.

    I thought automatic knives were already legal to own. I see them everywhere at gun shows and even a dealer here carrys them in stock. What's the difference between a switch blade and automatic?

    They should have spent some money and placed up some, "No stabbings allowed." signs around campus. Problem would've been solved then; the victims should sue the college.

    Yup! more No *** allowed, like "No Self-Defense" Sign. Sue the college .. taking $$$ from the colloge coffers is the only way to get thier attention. Where was Campus Security that these College Deans claim were sufficent to protect the students on Campus? Wasn't that what they claimed during the Guns on Campus bill debate?

    With few exceptions you CANNOT possess, manufacture, transport, repair or SELL a switchblade. They are doing so illegally.

    http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm

    § 46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells:
    (1) an explosive weapon;
    (2) a machine gun;
    (3) a short-barrel firearm;
    (4) a firearm silencer;
    (5) a switchblade knife;
    (6) knuckles;
    (7) armor-piercing ammunition;
    (8) a chemical dispensing device; or
    (9) a zip gun.

    (11) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a blade that folds, closes, or retracts into the handle or sheath and that opens automatically by pressure applied to a button or other device located on the handle or opens or releases a blade from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal force. The term does not include a knife that has a spring, detent, or other mechanism designed to create a bias toward closure and that requires exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist, or arm to overcome the bias toward closure and open the knife.
