19 yo kid, locking down an entire city, crashing it's economy for an unspecified time, citizens too afraid of both sides to poke their heads out the door, and would be dis-obeying orders if they did.

Going house to house? Of course, needed.

Locking down all of Boston and surounding areas? Fodder for jihadists everywhere sending a thrill down their legs.

Between the Media, and the overkill by the authorities, I believe that this is going to create more of these, and give Ideas to bigger fish like Iran (If they are not behind this one anyway).

Get the kid, whatever it takes. But shutting down an entire city of 400,000?

At least it is more then a "Light Brite" causing it this time.

Only in Massachusetts -- where a citizen can't own the same Smith & Wessons we do, and tolerate a totalitarian government that shuts down all public transportation paid for by the citizens, stops all commerce, and prevents freedom of association.

The authorities finally realized they had to lift the curfew this afternoon or they would face street riots from all those folks who need a drink, a smoke, a toke, a hit, or a hooker at the end of the day.

well said.. the unintended consequences here are outa the park.. an entire City shut down.. thinking (and not liking) the entire "enemy" list is grinning on this one..

For one guy? Sure, they need to find him, but to search houses illegally?

The terrorists won this one, hands down.

The search was 100% necessary, and legal by just about any standards. Plus I'm sure they got right at 100% consent, as it should be. My only issue, is why the entire city shut down. That is a bonus for the terrorists, and don't know how that weighed against the real safety of the other areas besides the area of concern.

Necessary? They wound up finding the guy outside the search area. I will say that a search was necessary, but the way they did it wasn't.

Please tell me which legal standard that the forcible search of these homes is OK under. Be specific.

Why do you think they kept saying they searched 70% of the area? It was 70% at noon, and 70% complete at 5pm. I'm guessing that if they weren't given consent, they didn't waste time on search warrants. It's not like they didn't have the manpower to place an officer or two at each house that didn't consent.

Is there any proof of forced searches? Has anyone come out and said they tried to resist a search? I wonder if they pushed it and had any non-consent searches? Just asking..................

I've seen a couple of people quoted on Facebook. One very thorough account talks about being "asked" out of the house on a loudspeaker and at gunpoint, then being held (again at gunpoint) while the home was searched.
