Actually, it is suppose to mean you used the wrong word...but it is "scot free"...

    www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/scot free.html

As to whether Zimmerman was guilty of breaking any laws, tell me which ones he allegedly broke? It is not illegal to follow someone unless you are trespassing, it is not illegal to confront someone if you suspect they are up to nefarious activities, and a 911 operator has no legal authority to tell a private citizen what they can or cannot do.

But it is illegal to physically attack someone, which is what Martin did. It was a stupid move on his part, and it cost him his life.

Zimmerman was acquitted because there was no evidence he broke the law. It's that simple.

Actually Zimmerman broke the law. Florida makes it illegal to shoot someone. That is what this trial was mostly about. He was justified in that illegal act, making it a justifiable homicide.

Now THAT'S confusing. A stand your ground law, but illegal to shoot, so are considered possibly guilty until proven innocent?

I do know that he did not break any laws. The only thing I thought he did was follow Martin till Martin finally had enough. I now know that is not the case. This is one case I just got sick of hearing about so I am terribly behind. Now I want to know why he was prosecuted in the first place, if he did nothing wrong. I thought the stand your ground law came with immunity to the person who had to use deadly force. Or maybe that's the castle doctrine.

Neither Castle doctrine or stand your ground laws prevent prosecution. In fact, whether or not a person meets the requirements of those laws is a matter of fact for a judge or jury.

**sigh*** self defense laws do not work that way; however, you do know that the prosecutor did not want to prosecute because it was a clear cut case of self defense, and the police chief agreed. It became political, the prosecutor was replaced in a political move, and the police chief fired.

You don't have your story strait [sic]

Yes I did hear about that. Why would that happen if it was a clear but case of self defense? What was there to gein politically?

My wife totally thought he was guilty....but she can't get past the part where Zimmerman was told not to follow Martin. I tried to explain the jury just had to decide if it was self defense....after the altercation started. Myself....I think Zimmerman was a cocky bastard looking to make a name for himself.......but he was not guilty of murder.

Problem is the media made up that "don't follow" thing. The operator (who isn't a cop!!!) said "we don't need you to do that". They never said "don't follow him" and even if the operator did it means jack shit. 911 operators have zero legal authority.

Zimmerman being told not to follow? Complete lie. Never happened, doesn't mean anything if it did.

I will be keeping the FNH 5.7 a little bit closer and packing an extra magazine or two the next few days.

O says... if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. The mom hears the 911 call in the mayor's office. DOJ sends folks to participate in the protest rallies. Police chief is fired because he won't prosecute. The lead detective is demoted because he won't recommend arrest.

A special prosecutor is appointed and the grand jury is skipped.

I think his prosecution had something to do with the "railroad." Again... just my opinion.

I've used the work railroaded a few times myself... I just hope he goes after all the alphabet networks for their slander. Might as well do el prezzee too.

AH. I went back and read some of the law and noticed it states, "NEAR impunity". Thank you for clearing that up.

As an aside, and it may be purely coincidental, but there was a very significant LE presence on the freeways of Houston today. Put over a hundred miles on today, mostly on the beltway, and saw a ton of cops running traffic. Mostly Constables on B8, Sheriff and DPS on 290. Zero troubles on the road, everyone seemed pretty normal.

Obama wants to bring Federal charges on him....

Why do you suppose he wants to do that? Is it like itchn was saying? They are turning this into a race thing? So if we don't like Obama, we are called racist, but Obama and friends can turn a self defense case into a racial circus? That's just sick.

Well, apparently he didn't break the law if he was acquitted.

'Stand Your Ground' laws, which Florida has, provides that any person may use deadly force when “he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another.”
