Upfront...im not a collector. Guns are cool but mostly they are important tools/insurance. Im posting this here instead or the subforums for these guns as im mostly just thinking out loud.
Im down to needing a 22 rifle. Im thinking this "has" to be a 10/22. I just dont know which model but the barrel needs to be threaded. Do i need iron sights?
Need 1 shotgun. Im pretty well in between a Benelli M2/4 and the FN SLP. Beretta/Browning dont make HD guns?
Finally, 308 rifle territory. First need to decide bolt vs semi-auto and go from there. Do i need iron sights if i go bolt? Im bailing on the AR platform at the same time it seems to be exploding so instead of AR10 type im thinking FAL or perhaps M1A.
44.2gr of varget under 150gr is far from hot, I run 44gr of varget under a 178, now that is warm. FGMM 175s run 2500 out of it, so a 50gr heavier bullet is still a couple hundred fps faster than the x39 with 123s. Judging from what hes getting fps wise 125s should run close to 3000 if you want compare apples to apples. x39 has nothing on 308 except cheaper for plinking, the rest is a wash for off the shelf finer ammo and should he ever get into reloading 308 is beyond easy to load for and secure components. Milsurp brass is everywhere, as well as actual milsurp ammo. You're comparing handloads to run of the mill x39 ammo. Hot x39 and standard x51 is another comparison you could try. Premium x39 ammo is the same price if not cheaper than premium hunting loads in .308. Are any AR-10s designed to handle a steady diet of quality .308 rounds? How bout even standard x51? I have not seen hardly any 5.45x39 ammo in the last year, I would not go AK-74.
Gerri has been advertising spam cans also I get emails all the time. Around $169 a can. You're comparing handloads to run of the mill x39 ammo. Only 4?So you already have a ak74, 13 mags and at least 4 spam cans of 7n6?
what does a threaded .22 barrell do for you?. what does a silenced .22 do for you? im curious and not trying to be a smart alec or confrotational.
I think you're selling yourself short if you don't at least consider an AR10 for your .308. Most of them can shoot 1MOA, only weight about 8lbs, and cost about a grand. Can't really get that combo out of any other .308 semi-auto. Not much sense in getting a bolt gun either considering the size, weight, accuracy, and cost of AR10s.
I don't have an AR10 however... I'm a PTR91 fan, but also really like some of the newer M1A's. They are both heavier and a little less accurate than AR10s, tho.
Only 4?
The best thing about the PTR91/HK91 is that you can get surplus G3 mags for $2 to $3 each and it's really fun to watch your fired casings get chucked 30 yards awayIll check out the PTR91.

Not sure if youre serious about an AR-10 being able to handle 308 ammo. Not sure what you mean by standard x51, youre either shooting commercial 308 win or 7.62 nato pressure, either of which will fire out of modern AR-10s. 5.45 can be found pretty easily if you buy in bulk and are willing to look. My buddy just bought two cases from PSA a couple months ago. Kind of wonder if you even know what youre talking about with some of those statements, 5.45 in stock and at a good price

where can you find these mags exactly? The best thing about the PTR91/HK91 is that you can get surplus G3 mags for $2 to $3 each and it's really fun to watch your fired casings get chucked 30 yards away
where can you find these mags exactly?
also, OP, you may want to consider the 930 SPX, and if you can find an older production year 10/22 ( mine is an 85' ) for better build quality.
Had a 930 SPX. Didnt run right.
Bought a 930 Home Security model, added extension and it didnt run right.
Done with Mossberg 930s. Thanks though.
I am increasingly appreciating very compact weapons so im thinking of picking up a Ruger Mark 3 with a long barrel instead of a 10/22. I dont know though, a 10/22 gives more accuracy and energy.
Shotgun, ive been considering a birdshead grip 870 to keep it compact or an FN SLP if i want to go full length semi auto.
308 rifle...ive been considering going with a Sig 556R (762x39) instead of 308 or an FAL.
Kind of all over the place i know so thats why right now im buying nothing at all. Looking is half the fun as they are all too expensive to shoot much once a guy buys them!
What didn't run right? I have a 930 that I haven't shot much so wondering. It's been fine so far.
