I probably would have pulled the trigger except for a tidbit of info I had read a while back ... a 308 has too much recoil and will cause premature failure.
I would like to hear real world experience.

True if the gun is .308. Generally true, anyway. And it's a matter of how long they'll last under .308 recoil. Will it die on the tenth shot? Nah. But it'll shorten the lifespan.
Also depends a bit on the .308. Some heavy-barreled 15lb beast AR rifle with a good brake probably won't bother the tube.
