I haven't seen anything mentioned specifically about table renting private sellers.

I haven't either, but they're the only ones Saxet has true control over, e.g. "to sell firearms at a vendor booth all sales must have a background check, etc."

It also doesn't explicitly say whether the county is requiring this EVEN for people with CHL's, who for FFL's would be otherwise exempt.

There's a LOT missing here that we won't know until the contract language becomes public, which it should.

Do you honestly believe a majority democrat county commission could not come up with this on their own?

Why are they apparently so committed to getting this deal done with Saxet? This is another political tool at the Democrats disposal and why Obama and his people are so dangerous. Remember O'dictator said "I have a pen and my phone."

I'm not quite sure what's going on. Saxet can't agree to this based on the characterization of the requirement in the article. Maybe the contract says something different.

Abbott needs to crack some skulls. This is despicable. I don't know if this started as a concerted effort on the part of liberals to circumvent Texas gun laws, but I do believe that "higher ups" are involved now.

They're not committed to getting it done, they're trying to deny Saxet the right to hold a show while making it appear they are only trying to protect the public with "common sense" regulations. Saxet can't agree to this. Travis County does not have the legal authority to require it.

Abbott needs to step up and sue Sam Biscoe into the stone age.

if he doesn't, take one notch off... however, I don't see an alternate to Abbott. just something to note towards the future for Abbott IMO if he doesn't open the "douse barrel lawsuit"

Yep. This is the difference between me voting for him and me continuing to send his campaign money every month.

Saxet can't agree to this. Travis County does not have the legal authority to require it.

If it's ONLY a requirement for people that rent booths from Saxet, Travis County CAN until a court says otherwise.

The cannot, however, hold them to a requirement for sales between individuals they have zero control over.

That's the difference - we need to see how specific the contract requirements are. As I noted above, there's also the little matter of "not everyone requires a background check today, would that change such that CHL holders would have to be NICS checked by any dealer at the show to be SAXET-contract compliant? Police officers, too?"

Too many variables in play that can be figured out by the language. I'm not home, but I'll make a request tomorrow for the contract from the county. It shouldn't still be protected by executive privilege at this point.

My belief on this is that the antis have learned that they are not going to succeed with outright, unconstitutional bans of almost any sort. They have also learned, thanks in part to the Federal Firearms Act of 1934, that they can accomplish similar outcomes by creating roadblocks and increasing the cost of gun ownership/acquisition/use. The license/tax of the FFA of 1934 of $200 per transfer was, at that time, exorbitant! Guns back then could be purchased for less than $50. The average net income for all citizens then was about $3,100 per year. Thus buying full auto, SBRs, SBSs and suppressors was pretty much cost prohibitive for most everyone, and sales/production of those items pretty much dried up.

For a recent example of this last year Cook County, IL added a $25 per firearm "tax". That of course is not a tax throughout IL or in other adjacent states. So, the probable outcome will be that gun sellers in Cook County will have fewer and fewer sales and may ultimately stop selling guns in Cook County. The antis will then have succeeded with their attempts to "ban" sales in the county without "violating" 2A.

The fact that the idiot Commissioners are so willing to kiss off $800,000+ in income for their wrong headed "convictions" is very irritating and I wish all of the taxpayers of Travis County would take note of that cavalier attitude about not seeking non-tax income.

That pretty much answers my question about "booth renters" or "everyone:"

Travis County Commissioners have given SAXET an ultimatum... background checks for every gun sale on the property. Federal law only requires licensed dealers to do so. SAXET Owner Gus Cargile told FOX 7 by phone that's impossible. "There's not enough cops in Austin to enforce that," Cargile said. "The premises there are very large. We have to enforce the premises that no two people out there do their constitutional rights and that's sell each other a gun." In a new contract sent to SAXET on Monday, commissioners offered to pay for more police officers to enforce no private sales in the parking lot during the show.

I'd think it's time to ask the Travis County DA to investigate whether trying to enforce these restrictions using contract renewals as a vehicle to enforce checks not required by law rises to the level of Official Oppression, PC 39.03:

Sec. 39.03. OFFICIAL OPPRESSION. (a) A public servant acting under color of his office or employment commits an offense if he:
    (2) intentionally denies or impedes another in the exercise or enjoyment of any right, privilege, power, or immunity, knowing his conduct is unlawful
    (d) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.

Yes, it seems crystal clear that Sam Biscoe engaged in official oppression based on that definition and yes, I'm sure our illustrious DA will get right on that.

btw, even if the county paid extra LEO's to patrol the parking lots, so what? What are they going to do if they see someone making a private sale? It's not illegal. Are they going to arrest somebody for not breaking the law? Are they going to forcefully drag them to one of the FFL booths and require them to pay a dealer to do a background fee, which is explicitly NOT required by state law and which the county/city doesn't have the power to enforce? What exactly is the point?

Idiocy. General Abbott, we desperately need you over here.

For anyone who takes the position that this is what Austin gets for electing these fools, get ready because if this is allowed to stand, you may well be next. I guarantee you Julian Castro and Annise Parker are taking notes.

Living in Austin, this has been one of my greatest concerns for a number of years. I can see the soon to be elected new 10-member city council trying to ban hicaps or even more.

Really odd. So the county board has a fiefdom in the Expo center and within that, they are the law. Is Travis County and Austin be becoming its own "city state" like Chicago?

They'll ask you to leave and if you refuse you'll either be given a Criminal Trespass Warning or arrested, I'd suspect.

They can't do anything about the sale but they can enforce county rules until such rules are challenged in court.

Best bet? Make the sale within the confines of your vehicle.

I understand they are going to do what they going to do either way, but is it posted or is their a local ordinance that firearm sales are prohibited on the property.

What sucks is it will take someone or a few to actually test it out and be arrested in order for any of this to be stopped.

General Abbott, we desperately need you over here.
I sent the below to Greg Abbott. I'm encouraging other's to send something similar. We need to make sure this issue is getting addressed.
The Travis County Commissioners are trying to get Saxet Gun Shows to sign a contract they can’t possibly comply with and they are also stating that they will have police prevent private sales outside the show. This reeks of Official Oppression to me. I understand Mr. Abbott is very busy with the campaign, but we desperately need his attention on this as the current Attorney General. Where is the “double-barreled” law suit he promised if these municipalities attempt to stifle our 2A rights?
