Hey Sapper-I went to an OCT event in Temple last fall. It was my first and last as well. I just didn't feel comfortable carrying a rifle in public, but I'm glad I at least gave it a try.

In a rare moment of self-enlightenment and examination, I asked myself what was my main motivation in wanting to attend the OC event? Was it because I believe it furthered the aims of the pro-2nd Amendment/pro Constitutional carry crowd or because I'm so fed-up of the Liberals systematic destruction of our rights and freedoms that I wanted to rub their fekking noses in some shit? Honestly, I have to admit it was the latter. Hubris is one of my failings and I try to mitigate it's influence on my decisions...not always successsfully.

Dusty, my eyes have been opened after seeing the reactions from my fellow TGT members. If like-minded people get virtually apoplectic over OC events, then I can imagine what the antis are thinking.....and doing. There's nothing to be gained from poking a stick in the anti-gunners' hornets nest but getting stung. I'm not so hide-bound that I can't see and not so prideful to admit when I'm wrong. The OCT event in North Richland Hills was my first....and last OC event.

I wouldn't go that far. They are a bunch of thumb sucking mouthbreathers. I think we should harass, insult, shame, and call the them out all day long. They are after our birthrights.

Sure, a few bozos carrying at Chipotle or whatever restaurant is a little annoying and appears immature. I'm not about to go and say it hurts our cause. It maybe does send a message to the anti-gun crowd, so although I am not particularly for it, I'm not going to openly go against it either, because it may serve some purpose.

The well-organized rallies are awesome. I wish we could get thousands upon thousands at the capital.

In a rare moment of self-enlightenment and examination, I asked myself what was my main motivation in wanting to attend the OC event? Nothing wrong with that, and I believe it does further the cause.

So, is the old backstabbing NRA back at it again?

I only ask this because their latest statement is an open denial of the open carry crowd. Remember folks, it's all political games with these guys, they will leave you hung out to dry.

Did they try to handle this in house? Don't think so. Send a representative to an event? Schedule a meeting with some of the groups' organizers? No.

    Embarrassing.

I think this is why a lot of people are doing this. People are fed up and dont know what else to do.

It's just my opinion but I think one of the best things we all can do is to support TSRA. Alice Tripp has been working at the capitol for years on our behalf. She is the "tip of the spear" if you will, as far as coordinating and getting laws pushed through the system.

If it wasn't for her, we would be nowhere near where we are now. If you're not a member, join. Support them any way you can.

I appreciate the open and honest conversation by all.

Wow - this thread is a tribute to TGT. We get on, argue, see the other person's side, and change minds. I always thought the OC into restaurants was imbecilic. Doing it at the Capitol, not so much. I love what gun rights I have, I yearn for more, but scaring non-believers isn't the best approach in my opinion. Sapper, I'd shake your hand again - and shoot your Boys again - lol.

I count myself into the knucklehead category.

All of the above. :D That was purely my intention. I had heard about the group-hell, even watched form and was one of the first 500 to join it, and didn't feel like I could accurately say these guys are good to go or these guys are boneheads unless I actually went to a meet and saw what wasn't being reported on. While I must say it HAS come a long way from what it was to begin with, I'm still getting a little tired of things lately. That reply from the NRA I think has finally put me against the way they are doing things.

I'm reminded of the phrase "I don't mind pot-it's the pot culture I can't stand". Well, I think that works perfectly in regards to these guys. I don't mind open carry-it's the OCT culture that is starting to get out of hand.

    Meanwhile in Dallas.......................

"I personally am an endowment lifetime member of the NRA and an inductee into the Golden Eagles program," C.J. Grisham, president of "Open Carry Texas," told a CBS Dallas affiliate. "And I will rip up my cards and burn my certificates on camera if they don't change their stance."

Texas open-carry gun groups threaten to leave NRA - KYTX CBS 19 Tyler Longview News Weather Sports

Change it to fucking what? This guy is dumber than a box of rocks. NRA is 100% on-board with OC. They even worked with TSRA this past spring to hold OC hearings in Austin.

What we need is for him to leave the NRA and Texas too.

    2013:

NRA-ILA | Texas House Committee to Hold Public Hearings on NRA-Backed Campus Carry and Open Carry Bills this Week in Austin

    2014:

At a Legislative Hearing, Open Carry Advocates Pine for the 'Old West' | The Texas Observer

Note Grisham was in Austin testifying with NRA/TSRA!!!!

The advocates invited to give testimony—among them, lobbyists from the NRA and the Texas State Rifle Association, and C.J. Grisham, the founder of Open Carry Texas—sold open carry as the correction of a historical error. Alice Tripp of the Texas State Rifle Association said open carry would reverse a restriction put in place in the 1880s as a result of the “occupying federal army during Reconstruction.”

I think some of y'all are being a little judgmental here. The NRA is flat out in the wrong by going to the media like this.

"What they're doing is caving into a national gun control effort to denounce us, and it's working," Grisham said. "I've encouraged them to come out and see for themselves what our rallies are like instead of listening to the media narrative at the national level, and they've refused to do so. The NRA is really talking out of ignorance."
Terry Holcomb, Sr., president of "Texas Carry," took his response a step further, suggesting an ouster of people like NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre, who's largely become the face of the organization in recent years.

"We may be looking at needing new leadership in the NRA, because they are capitulating to politics," Holcomb said. "Those of us that know what the Second Amendment is for and believe in the Second Amendment, and know that it's a right, are not going to accept the NRA's position, and the NRA is going to lose members over this."

Should the NRA decline to shift its footing, Holcomb added, "we will actively try to move people from the NRA to [Gun Owners of America], or another alternative."

I can't say I disagree with the gentlemen here. Is now the time for this?

Did you see my post above? The NRA has been FOR Open Carry long before either of these clowns arrived on the scene. They continue to lie claiming NRA is not for Open Carry when as I pointed out above NRA has been in Austin for years on this issue.

Grisham and Holcomb are the problem, not the solution.

Ha, I saw you post and read the articles. The second article, for one, is a liberal hit piece and in mentions that C.J. Grisham testified at the same hearing as the NRA.

The first one shows the NRA supported HB 700 and 1194, which only covers licensed OC. I think the OC movement is for unlicensed OC, it's kind of the point of the whole debate.

Okay, all you have shown is the NRA wanting to compromise again and support weak bills and their desperate attempt to stamp out competing groups or figures in the pro-2nd amendment movement.

Holcomb and Grisham have been more successful in creating public debate about the subject of OC. This makes it a relevant issue to voters, why else would Wendy Williams come out and say she supports OC?

I don't know what the NRA's deal is.

Yes the path to Constitutional Carry starts at removing penalty for Concealed Carry. Anyone who think we are going to go to Constitutional Carry in one law is dreaming. But they are free to try and get it passed.

Okay, all you have shown is the NRA wanting to compromise again and support weak bills and their desperate attempt to stamp out competing groups or figures in the pro-2nd amendment movement.

It is not the NRA it is Texans like me. Nobody wants to stamp out competing groups, but I do want to put all the wood behind one arrow and focus to get things passed. Splintered groups agendas do not work, we tried that with LoneStarCDL.

Holcomb and Grisham have been more successful in creating public debate about the subject of OC. This makes it a relevant issue to voters, why else would Wendy Williams come out and say she supports OC?

They have created controversy, not debate. We do not need debate. OC was a slam dunk win in 2015 if they had not gotten involved. We are at risk of getting nothing now.

I don't know what the NRA's deal is.

I don't know why people think NRA even has a role here. This is a Texas State issue not a National issue and TSRA is the leading organization for getting gun rights passed in Texas. Hundreds of pro-gun laws over the years.
