    DFW area.....Wylie.
I have tried firing with a flashlight, which is the exact reason I now have a tac light for my pistol (and for my hunting rifle, hogs at night). The extra weight of a light on the end of pistol actually reduces muzzle climb and makes reacquiring your target a bit easier/faster (which is why there are 'match weights' for some pistols).

Oh, and what's this girl stuff? Last time I checked, there's something swinging between my legs.

...and the last time I checked between your legs was...???

You called her bro she called you girl it's a trade off. J/k
Yup, BC covered it. I'm just poking back at ya and giving you an equally hard time

I know you're pretty new around here, no worries. Lots of news faces and it's great to see the place growing

    Back on topic!

Have any of you actually tried to shoot you pistol (I mean live rounds not dry fire) with a flash light in your hand?
No, my experience was holding a mag light in my mouth. It was nice cause where I looked the light went, but that proved to be a hindrance too in off camber movements where my head, body and gun needed to go at different angles.

I liked your lights. I need to get squared away with some uber lights.

Stick with name brand units that have LED bulbs......that's my only suggestion. Did I have the light on the HK you were using when us 'late nighters' did the coon walk?

    Ok.

No, no light on the HK that night. I would have remembered it with our 5 beers, 2 flashlights and 1 water we carried out there too

I've got a TLR-1 somewhere around here (I misplaced it at some point, but I know it's in the house...). The difference between that and the -2 is that the -2 has an integrated laser sight... and costs at least twice as much.

Weapon lights are a useful tool to add to "the toolbox" IMO. They have their pros and cons, and as long as you understand those, they serve as yet another helpful device in many situations. This subject is somewhat like the subject of lasers for handguns. I like lasers where possible, preferably only Crimson Trace since they are unobtrusive. Any advantage you can gain in sighting, having a more positive reference point of where those rounds are going, etc is a good thing IMO. The more advantage I can gain over an attacker, the better.

Don't mess with Shorts, she will straight up pistol whip you! ;) lol j/k

The reason I asked about the shooting with a light is it's different. Not necessarily harder but different. And no to shooting positions are the same between brands of lights. Most different models require a slightly different hold on the gun, light, or both and IMHO it is wise to learn how to shoot with a handheld light as well as learn how to properly use your weapon mounted light.

i think the final finding should be that if you're gonna use one, make sure you know HOW TO PROPERLY use it, if not, it could just become a hindrance and possibly get you killed.

if you are wanting something a little different, to run double duty, i think it's pentagon that makes it, not sure but it's an angle head flashlight (very small) that has a loop that slips over your finger and hangs over the back of your recessive hand so when you grip the pistol, it's a natural grip but if you have to use your hand. its still useable

Knowing how to use your gear goes for all of it, including your gun. Being able to put a hole in the black at the range doesn't make someone prepared for self-defense.

I think it's the tomahawk that you are talking about, not sure tho. And yes, if folks mount a light onto there weapon they need to realize that it is only for clearing rooms and the like, not navigation. Get another light for navigating the dark hallway and use your weapon light to clear rooms.
