    That judge is an idiot
From the link I posted earlier today:

"According to the New Mexico Courts website, Backus was first appointed to the bench in June 2011 by Republican Gov. Susana Martinez. She was elected to the post in 2012 and is expected to remain there until at least 2020.

"Prior to her appointment to the bench, Backus – a graduate of the University of California Hastings College of the Law – served as a deputy public defender and deputy Attorney General in San Francisco. She's lived in Taos since 1994.

"Martinez issued a statement after Monday’s hearing saying she “strongly disagreed” with the outcome and Backus’ decision.

“Unfortunately, it highlights how extreme the New Mexico Supreme Court has been in dictating pretrial release for all kinds of dangerous criminals,” she said.

I'm watching the news now (ABC) talking about how the judge let them go. I guess she's getting threats. Cry me a river.

I have no doubt it has been said lots of times, but if this were a white, NRA member that voted for trump it would be 24/7 news. Just like when some moron stabbed some kids at a refugee camp about a month ago. At first it was all over the news because the media assumed it was a white trump supporter who did not want them here. After they showed the picture of a black guy with dreadlocks you did not hear anything about it. Seems instead of gun control certain groups need to be controlled. And of all things a democrat judge let them out on bond?

    phoenix,

SPOT ON CORRECT. = As I've said elsewhere, had our Founding Fathers had any in inkling of how UTTERLY DISHONEST that the "free press" would become, they would have said something about INTENTIONAL DISHONESTY in print/public speech by the "mainstream media outlets".

Freedom means sometimes people are going to say things that you don't like.

    orbitup,

There is a HUGE difference in "to say things that you don't like" & INTENTIONALLY LYING.

    yours, satx

Do you want a government you disagree with to shut you down because they say you are lying? Do you think whoever would be in charge of that would be the only person on earth pure as the driven snow?

    Orbitup,

Do you want the sort of government & media who destroys a person's life as they did the INNOCENT Richard Jewell or CREATES "out of whole cloth" a RAPE case that damages the life of an entire Duke University athletic team?
(In BOTH cases, the mainstream media KNEW BEFORE they "sold" those KNOWING LIES that there was NO truth whatever in either case. = Richard Jewell had NOTHING whatever to do with what he was accused of & there was NO SEX, much less any rape, in the Duke Lacrosse case.)

In such cases, ALL that should be required to find the press is at fault & liable for damages is that the jury decides what was broadcasted/printed was FACTUALLY FALSE & the press KNEW and/or SHOULD HAVE KNOWN that what was claimed was false prior to its publication/dissemination.

IF it was YOU, whose life was RUINED, how would you feel??
(As a result of how our libel/slander laws are written to favor the mass media, the defendant must PROVE that not only was what he/she accused of FALSE but the press actually INTENDED TO HARM his/her reputation.)

I would be okay with suing a media company that lied about you, I just don't want the .gov making those decisions. You mentioned the founding fathers in your original statement, they wouldn't want the government involved either.

    Orbitup,

Personally, I don't want the government making any decision that a citizen can make for themselves, unless they are injuring someone else directly.

Ole Tom Jefferson was 100% CORRECT when he said that, "That government is best, which governs least."
