I've shot a lot of slugs and they are not good for defense, only for hunting.
ive got a few boxes of slugs. i hate shooting them though. they hurt your shoulder like a mofo
I have Knoxx recoil reducing stock on my Mossberg. It works extremely well. The last shotgun school I attended we shot slugs all afternoon. It was like shooting a heavy bird shot. Very cool.
The Winchester 2 3/4" (1600 FPS) slugs work well on targets out to 400 meters. They will beat the heck out of you though.
I cast my own slugs (7/8 oz Foster) and load them to 1580 fps. I can keep 20 shot groups inside a sheet of legal paper (8 1/2" X 14") off hand at 100 yards. I pitty the fool that receives one.
400m! I'm impressed. Is that with a slug barrel or smoothbore? The Winchester 2 3/4" (1600 FPS) slugs work well on targets out to 400 meters.
For my Mossy 500 I bought a 5 round box of Remington 385 gr sabot slugs, before doing research on the rifled barrel issue, and of course the morons at Carters never asked me about my barrel ( never going to buy anything there again for several reasons ). So can I use them in a smooth bore barrel?
And not at 200 meters - but at 1850fps seems they would make a good 1 shot option. Just wondering your thoughts.
Thanks
Jack
