I had it once. Now I'm having trouble finding the federal laws stating we can legally use 80% lowers to finish our own AR lower. Can anyone send link so I can make copies of pertinent laws? I'd like to keep a copy with the AR. Just in case a LEO wants to give me a hard time. CYA kinda thing.

Never saw it, but I heard Texas has a law Concerning 80% lowers that states they do not have stricter gun control laws than federal government. Is that true? If so could someone tell me where to find copy of that?

Thanks.

No such laws at either the Texas or Federal Level.

I don't believe "80%" is an actual term defined anywhere in government code rather an industry term derived from what the definition of a frame/receiver is defined as in the code.

Found this. https://www.atf.gov/resource-center/...aspdf/download
See bottom of page 7 and page 8. Question 11.
Not a quote from federal codes, but answers from ATF on the subject.

On state level. I think it was not a law, but an answer to a similar question (to Texas) was : if there is no stricter state law, then federal law applies.

There is no state or federal law that states "
we can legally use 80% lowers to finish our own AR lower."

You will never find as it does not exist. The link you posted above has nothing to do with this.

I believe you are correct. The lack of a law concerning an individual making his own firearm is what makes it legal. If law does not make it illegal then it is legal?? You still have to abide by GCA and NFA.

My apologies Renegade.

How does that link have nothing to do with it? Question 11 is about making your own firearm. An 80% lower allows a person to do this.

I'm not trying to be offensive. Just trying to understand all aspects on the subject.

No offense taken.

1) it is not a law.
2) Does not say anything about using an 80% lower.

ATF generally does not even use the term "80%" in anything official.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Correct on all three counts. However the question on document pertaining to making your own firearm wouldn't that also apply to what most people call 80% lower? If not, why not?
