So if neither one existed what would be your go to semi auto carbine or rifle? Why?
The reason I ask? I have both. Love both. But I'm bored of both. I need something new to love. Under 1500. < gunshow tomorrow;)

M1 Carbine. Light, handy, low recoil, just an all-around good rifle.

Vz.58. Nothing like the AK mechanically, but same caliber, similar handling.

SKS. A decent rifle in 7.62x39mm

Lee Enfield. Not semi-auto, but can be fired very rapidly with some practice. The next best thing, really. Can be had in .308 if you get an Ishapore 2A.

We'll see how long this one keeps me interested.

Not much for under $1500 can compare to an AR or AK... If you can find one, a Steyr AUG (unlikely) or a MSAR STG-556 (more likely) is a good rifle.
