    Pretty disappointing on the lack of 20-39 year olds here. I see just as many gun enthusiasts in that age range as any other in the real world, tho. Wonder if forums are just a dying media.

    I've been here 11 years and could have picked three different brackets depending on when it was asked...

    Wonder if forums are just a dying media.

    FidoNet -> UseNet -> Web Based Forums -> FaceBook, et al -> Twitter -> Instagram -> ??

    Folks gravitate to first, what technology allows; secondly, what they've become used to; and third, where their interest/information is; and, for the young, it's where the visual flash bang baubles and beads can be found, and where virtual reality beats the hell outta the real thing for many.

    While there are still many folks on UseNet, like rec.woodworking, most of the young have no clue how to access it.

    The further left you go above, the closer to the grave ...

    Most youngsters don't even know how to use Archie, Gopher, Veronica, and Jughead. They missed so much.

    And I suppose I miss a lot by not understanding how to use Twitter or Instagram to carry on any sort of meaningful data exchange.

    But I've gotten old enough to almost stop caring. Almost. :)

    Most are probably chased off for having other beliefs than the old fashioned conservative mind. I have been chastised here several times, because I'm not religious. God forbid me if my morals and ethics aren't enough to get me through life without sin.

    The area where forums outshine other media is building a collective knowledge base. I'm in several very targeted Facebook groups and it's just impossible to progress the collective knowledge of them. The same stupid questions just get asked over and over. Instagram is fun, but I don't really see a meaningful way to communicate with it.

    Hopefully something will come along that will do all of the above. I like new platforms, but I need to know where to find them :laughing:

    I actually think TGT is more classically liberal than many other gun forums. I'd like to think I helped shape that... Of course classical liberalism isn't mutually exclusionary to American conservatism, so that helps.

    That happens here as well, but perhaps not as much. I have nothing to compare it to as I am only in a couple of forums and not on any social media (faceplant & twitter, etc) at all.
    Because of the way Facebook displays posts, the same question could be asked multiple times a day and the posters might not see it. Even for the people who pay close attention, the collective attention span tends to only be about 72 hrs.

    The way it functions, it basically turns everyone into a goldfish.

    Yep, and as much as I prefer the written word to reference when needed, YouTube so far does a pretty good job of being a collective knowledge base ... until it inevitably gets consumed with commercialism, that is.

    I really liked pre-2016 Youtube. They seem pretty intent on making it Theirtube, tho... It's still hanging on for now, but a replacement is needed.
