They can ban tannernite for sale, but the ingredients are pretty common.
Yeah, but I believe that you need to show ID and do some paperwork to get more than 25 pounds of AN.
The Department believes that this weight is low enough to prevent a bad actor from easily acquiring a sufficient quantity of ammonium nitrate to pose a terrorist threat.
Ya, I think you're right.
From what I read in a Federal Register, 25 lbs is the "threshold weight."

From a shooters perspective, the 7.5" AR is much louder than my 870. It also, does indeed, have a large fireball. If you're using it inside, I highly would recommend ear pro or a can on the end.
Also, as far as volume if it says anything... I was shooting my 700 in .308 and my 16" AR in 5.56. The guy next to me was running a KSG. After a few shots on the 7.5" AR, he stopped to come see what the heck I was shooting.
Someone mentioned AR/AK pistols for home defense. Which would have a larger report in an enclosed area in a house, one of the pistols or a shotgun? I imagine the pistols would have a pretty bright fireball coming out of them as well...

They're okay range toys. COULD they be used for home defense? Sure. Are there better options? Of course. They're about as 'practical' as a Rossi Ranch Hand. Once I fulfill a few more 'wants' I might pick one of those up. Practical? Not really. Fun toy? Yes.
Yep, poor choice for HD due to loud ass boom. I'll post a link to mines throwing flames when I get home.
