    I think your formula is off... Assuming that same formula applies to all engines, that would make my 4.6 a 285, and i know it's a 281.

    A 4.9L 302 would be a 303 according to that formula.

    A 5.8L 351 would be a 359

    Then you can figure BoreXBoreX.7854XstrokeXnumber of cylinders= cubic inches.
    So your 4.6 converted by liquid volume"Liters" is a 285.2 ci by "volume".
    The cubic inches of the 4.6L converted by measurement is exactly 280.8 cubic inches.
    No, volume measurements are not accurate in liters.
    Your so called 7.3 liter "powerstroke" internation is measure exactly at 443.65 cubic inches. Funny how that changes things.

    So, where do I sent the bill?

    1 L = 61.0237 in³
    A Ford 302 is called a 5 Liter due to the old Can-Am 5 Liter racing class, it's actually 4.9L. Another reason is a Ford 4.9L is a 6 cylinder (the "300").
