I think we really need to be careful giving advice that folks are "GTG" until we know more of what is in this bill.

Not everyone who can possess a firearm legally is "GTG". No can they they "GO" where LTC can go.

This bill is complex, we can point out what we see or do not see, but broad claims of what is legal is dangerous territory.

Yeah; I’ve asked @benenglish if we can get a Constitutional Carry sub-forum just to speak to these things without mixing it up with LTC.

The biggest threat I see right now is lack of good education that leads to good practices by those intending to do the right thing. Little things like not knowing a 51% applies to all persons with a firearm or those carveouts hidden in the bill.

At least now that it’s enrolled, the cross-referencing is much easier.

The sub forum request is in committee.

I have a feeling that the intentions of this bill and what it actually accomplishes and our expectations are vastly different

Well it is definitely NOT a Constitutional Carry bill.

We pretty much had Constitutional Carry for long arms, it looks like that is lost.

I also see some places where you could LTC are now off limits.

For LTC or long arm carry, we lost ground.

For permit less handgun carry, gains were made.

As an LTC who also longarmed carry (bag, backpack, truck gun, etc), this bill is garbage.

But how many business put up 30.05 signs will really determine how much we lost.

    eta

and now we regulate air guns????

One of the things that also concerns (affects) me, as far as keeping my LTC, is I haven't seen what constitutional carry will be on college campuses. Right now it's LTC holders, and even now through the college it's pretty quiet as far as constitutional carry goes.

It also appears the misdemeanor offenses that preclude carry only apply to Texas Convictions. Convicted of the same offense in another jurisdiction, no problem.

This law is so unequally applied, it is beyond belief.

The positive could be, permit less folks will start to carry, see how LTC is more advantageous, than then get an LTC.

It's the best gun law I've seen passed in my lifetime.

You must be under 26 and missed CHL passage.

CHL allowed more people to carry, in more places not just in Texas but across the US, while bypassing NICS and Fed School Zones, while not taking away any existing carry rights.

This law does NONE of those things.

    Nope.
I know all about that one.
I have close friends who have licenses.
It still isn't the step forward this one is

Now I can carry. Without spending time and money to "register".

I'd argue the "more people" comment.

    But I've said my piece.

true this is free, that is about the only beneficial difference.

Due to the misdemeanor prohibitions more people are eligible to carry under LTC than this bill. That is not really arguable.
