I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but cuss words are now filtered on this website. For example, here's what happens when I try to post Carlin's seven dirty words:
"****, ****, ****, ****, **********, mother****er, and ****."
This isn't my forum. It's not my job to tell another man how to run his property; and that's not what I'm trying to do. ****, I don't even think it's right for users here to say things like, "Mods lock this thread now." That's not our place as regular users.
Speaking solely as a user, however, I have some thoughts to share. I don't like this non-cussing thing. I don't like the man cave disappearing. I don't like the family-friendly, PG tone this message board is quickly taking.
TGT was the only gun board I know of which allowed its users to speak like adults as long as we weren't attacking each other. That included using adult language and speaking about adult topics. Which brings us to what this forum is about: Guns. We discuss tools and tactics used to end human life. This isn't a PG topic. It isn't family friendly. It is as adult as it gets. Why then are we allowed to speak as much as we want about such adult subject matter, only to have certain things which are less adult-oriented verboten?
In other words, the core subject matter of this board is adult themed. What is the point of trying to make everything else PG? This board is starting to remind me of those weird VHS video stores that would sell R-rated movies (like Saving Private Ryan or Titanic, which had all manner of adult material) but would blank out the cussing or blur women's ******* because "It's offensive."
What's worse is that the language here was never really an issue anyway. Yeah, people would use casual cursing, but it was never really out of hand. The man cave had a few booties and ******* popping out. That's not really unexpected for a board which attracts mostly adult men who make no efforts to curb their testosterone. What I'm ultimately trying to say is; it seems silly to me to dub a grave adult subject such as ending other people's lives as acceptable while dubbing naughty language and scantily clad women as "Too much."
Like I said, it's not my board. I can't make anyone change anything here. I am just a customer (I did enjoy the site enough to make a small contribution). And while I'm neither threatening to stop contributing, nor under the impression that witholding $20 for a three year membership is much of a threat anyway, I do feel like it's time to voice my concern over what is happening here. Take heed, ignore it, do what you will. Ultimately though, from my personal perspective, it seems like the things which made this gun board stand out from all others are being snipped away and what we are going to be left with is just another gun board; completely ununique and homogenized.
I hope I am not out of line for saying these things. I say them because I like the board and want it to remain great. Hopefully the new owner will at least appreciate the feedback, even if he ultimately disagrees.
