In the past we had "News" media. Now we have "Ratings" media. BIG difference.
Don't be fooled. In capitalist democracies the press/media/news has always existed first and foremost to make money as a business and has shaped its business model to maximize returns. Think about Walter Conkite, the most trusted man In America. He got that moniker because CBS spent the money to make NBCs Huntley-Brinkley show come across as light. The only way you do that is by making money.

During the Iran hostage crisis, he ended his show with the date and the number of days the hostages had been held. That served to keep the issue front and center during an election year, forcing Carter's hand into Desert One and resulting i. Reagan's election.

In every other political-economic construct the press has been an extension of, or censored/controlled by governments of political parties.

    toddnjoyce,

In 2018, the so-called "mainstream media" has mostly become nothing more or less than a "house organ" of the extremist, LEFT-wing fringe of the DIMocRATS Party.

The disinterest in even telling the public the truth occasionally is relatively new for the major network news shows.

Not since CNN in 1980 where the original mission statement was "Go live, stay with it and make it important."

Totally agree. I mean Sean Hannity has dinner with the President twice a week.

But only the media you don’t agree with, right?

Well to be fair, they are usually wrong. If they were right, I would agree with more of them.
So do you believe most media outlets report the news or do they slant it when reporting it?

    To All,

I long ago lost count of the OBVIOUS, KNOWING LIES told by the so-called "mainstream media", from "with the troops reports" that were made on a sound stage in Rome, to Richard Jewell, to The Duke Lacrosse Team scandal, to the Trayvon Martin "pack of lies", the mass media LIES for "market share", to sell ads or (in most recent 10 years of the 21st Century) to advance the LEFTIST/SOCIALIST agenda.

    gaines67,

To be FAIR, Sean Hannity says himself that he is NOT a journalist but rather is an editorialist & a political commentator.
    BOTH give their opinions/viewpoint.

    yours, satx

That’s a fair point i’m just pointing out that the lies and hypocrisy are prevalent throughout the media, on all sides. I’m thinking I’ll have to go back to my childhood to get any objective news, I.e. comic books.

News outlets are run by humans, hence the bias is innate. I try to get my news from diverse sources, though I acknowledge diversity is the eye of the beholder: Wall Street Journal and The Economist, New York Times and the National Review (yes, Bill Crystal, I get it), Fox and CNN, Politico and InfoWars. Jut kidding on the last, Alex Jones is a turd. I do my best to extrapolate the truth.

With MSM on one side Fox somewhere in the sorta middle and big league politics on the right side between the three with a spattering of BBC you can kinda figure out what really happened, MAYBE.

Remember "Now for the rest of the story" tagline????

    gaines67,

At least in my mind there is a HUGE difference in having some inborn bias and INTENTIONALLY failing to tell what you know to be the FACTS or INTENTIONALLY "reporting" things that you KNOW are 100% FALSE.

And therein lies the problem. I reject Fox jerking off President Trump just like I did when CNN, MSNBC et. al. did it to President Obama. It’s ridiculous.

I guess it is all the perspective of how much of the elephant we can see and touch. I see FN as only not attacking DT near as much as CNN or MSNBC and SATX is correct, many media outlets outright lie. NYT would be one of them.

Yep, humans are indeed bias but if I could put it aside for 25 years in my daily interactions with the public, "journalists" can do so too when "reporting" the news.

One would have to be blind and deaf or a Democrat to not see the outright vitriol most media outlets have against DT, Christians, the Republic, the Constitution, and Conservatives (Not saying they are all related)
