FoxNews "Grave Error" headlines are telling.

Mexico's imigration-control infrastructure is diminutive and ineffectual compared to ours and ours is terribly over-stressed.

    Sounds terrible for Texas.
Has already been terrible for my retirement plans this week.

I'm looking for a silver lining.

There seems to be a deafening silence on this board so I figured it needs some reconnoitering.

Anybody feel good about this latest immigration kerfuffle??

Since the liberals in Congress will not do anything about the hoards of illegals invading our country Trump is pretty much backed into a corner.

I don't know whether the tariffs is a good idea or not. But it seems to me that it might be an effective tool to get Mexico to do more to stop the invasion.

    Yes, without a doubt.

The burden placed on our country by illegal immigration cannot be overstated.

Think of the disparity in our protection by our country’s law enforcement.

Illegal aliens break numerous state and federal laws and do it for the most part with immunity, being rewarded for their actions when it’s all said and done.

The flip side is a post I just read where the ATF was chasing down people that bought a $20 part from China that could convert an Airsoft Glock pistol to full auto. The part would do the same to a real Glock pistol though it wasn’t marketed for that purpose.

Whatever happened to equal protection under the law? Are our nations citizens not worthy of equal protection from those who would break our laws to enjoy benefits they’re not entitled to at our expense?

Had not heard about it until you brought it up.
Have not changed my plans to retire this year. If it gets the legislature off their asses and doing something constructive about the immagration problem, I'm for it. Probably what he is trying to do. Mexico won't do anything about it on their side until it cost them money. Right now they get a lot of US dollars from illegals that they have no incentive to slow it down. Hurting their economy and making it hurt financially is a start.
American companies generally pay large tariffs to sell products in other countries. Yet other countries pay much smaller tariffs to sell here. And that is supposed to be good according to the Dems. And it is. For other countries. For our country, not so much.
I would say it needs to get expanded to all the other countries south of us that send hoards of illegals here as well.

I don't like a lot of what Trump does or says, but if it upsets you, it's worth taking a look at. If a Dem don't like it, it must be good.

I think you'd be surprised how much fresh produce you buy comes from Mexico. Just last week HEB was out of strawberries because of some weather issues there (or so the sign said).

I'm not really sure what to think about the tariffs. If Trump's trying to incentivize them into helping us with illegal immigration, good luck. If he were explicitly tying this into funding a wall, I'd have an easier time getting behind it, but I didn't hear that that was the plan.

Speaking of funding the wall, whatever happened to Cruz's plan to confiscate El Chapo's billions? Or a tax on international wire transfers? I kinda liked those ideas, and they seem like they might put more pressure on Mexico than tariffs.

I figure I need to eat avocados while I still can afford them. Personally avos are the only thing I believe I consume from Mexico. I don't care for their other produce.

I eat avocados every day. I’d pay a buck an avocado if the extra money would fund the damn wall. Same goes for other Mexican produce.

The other day I was in the midst of a conversation at a university and one of the professors said the word “Mexican” and everyone’s face lit up like the person had committed a serious PC violation or accidentally said the word “fvck” at church. That’s some pretty fkd up sh1t.

It's berry season in Commiepornia too. If HEB didn't have berries it's because their buyer is buying mexican produce. Having worked in grocery stores I alway read labels & dates. I no more want Mexican produce, then grapes from Chile or beef from a handful of turd world cuntries.

I'm just as choosy about my guns. I don't want guns from croatia, turkey, china, brazil! I try real hard to buy American when I can. Don't get me wrong I have bought American made & been really disappointed, and when I do I write them & call them out on there shit.

At the heart of the matter.....we cannot control our border even with our enormously well funded resources.

We expect Mexico, with comparatively meager resources, to do it for us.

All the tariffs will do is pass the cost along to US consumers.
Cars, clothing, fruits and veggies and most categories of consumer goods will go up!!!

Trump was pretty peeved at his economic adviser for saying that on FoxNews.

Seems to me, and apparently to most economists, that we are pissin' into our own boots.

...drug cartels are the driving force in government, I doubt any changes will be made.

So we will seriously tax average Americans to accomplish nothing.

Makes me seriously say "WTF Donald".

You guys are strengthening my belief that tariffs on Mexico will accomplish nada, all the while burdening our own consumers.
