No luck this morning.
I'm taking a mid morning break, then will scout more.
Total count of deer taken so far this week out of this area is over 30. I'll swing by the check station before noon and get the current total.
Here is a picture of the hunter check station.
The staff wanted us to field dress the deer, then bring them to the check station.
They had a large cooler where the deer could hang for the week.
A shower, a comfortable bed and a porcelain toilet has won out over another day of hunting. I'm heading home. I will publish an after action review with more photos once I get home.
Back home safe.
I'll start with the rifle:
I've had this model 70 for a long time and have used it on many hunts.
It proved it's worth again.
Being able to take off the scope and use iron sights, then put the scope back on and retain zero is huge.
I came across two hunters tgis week that didn't have iron sights, and were stuck with 4-12x scopes in woods where you couldn't see beyond 50 yards.
Having the ability to put the scope back on and the bipod on allowed me to switch hunting styles and cover large open fields later in the week.
I think shooting sticks would have been more usefull than the bipod.
More thoughts:
The 50 year old weaver scope is starting to show its age. One evening, I was out of light, scope not usefull, and I started packing things up when a guy in the field next to me took a shot using a new BSA scope.
Scope technology - clarity and light gathering ability have improved greatly over the past 50 years. Maybe I should get with the times.
