I have to vote for the S&W 29. I bought it a couple decades ago for my store and kept it. Have shot over a thousand of rounds thru it and no complaints. Shot a smallish bear with it in colorado and lots of critters.

S&W 629, 8 3/8ths. It has an extremely smooth double action trigger (which is a hallmark of Smith's) and a light crisp single action. No problems whatsover. Accurate, and easy to shoot with the rubber grips.

The only downside is cleaning it, and thats not much of a problem.

My model 29 is closing in on 40 years old, so I only shoot 44spl out of her now. For the Big Boom magnums now I prefer the Ruger Bisley single action. Angle of the grip makes controling recoil a lot easier.

Model 29, nickel 6-1/2" barrel. Built in early 70s. Traded a model 57 and $100 for it about 1974. The (retired) cop who traded me for it still mentions time-to-time he'd like to have it back.

My father left me his Blackhawk and I live casting/loading/shooting it. Can’t really beat Ruger for a great wheelgun

I had a S&W 629 8 3/8 inch barrel. It had a recall on the cylinder & I sent it back to them. I noticed S&W was having a lot of recalls & I sold it. Said I would never buy another S&W product & stuck by it. Never really missed that gun, nor did a see the need for another .44 magnum.
An old post but I have a 629 with 8 3/8" barrel and didn't know about the recall. Took a bunch of tracking to find that mine doesn't have a recall. Thank you for this post, somewhat late. You don't want a 44 magnum to blow up in your face.
Here are serial numbers of recalled guns

Ugh_ I have a line on a stainless Anaconda. Struggling with buying it cheap. The 29 snub I had years ago was a mule. Do i want one more caliber to stock since I no longer reload? Not a rhetorical question.
