I love the ole vinegar and salt trick. Looking great!

Thank You Dan. Appreciate that. Installing the yoke on the drive shaft was a huge pita. But it's together right.

The tranny showed up. After some study on GM crap. It's my understanding this 4l60e was built to a 4l65e. Five planetaries front and back. 'beast' Sun shell. Corvette servo. Looks pretty enough for a warmed over Turbo 350 with a 4th gear and lockup converter.

All the stuff that comes in the "Monster in a box" rebuild kit. Is pretty decent parts. From all I've read about the parts Monster uses. It's not junky by no means. (Sorry 35, I had to make a word up.)

    In the next pics...

Things like this is what pisses me off about GM. You're looking at a slip fit GM trans cooler.

Now the pissed off comes from the slip fit connectors being 3/8" tube to 5/8" NTFP. Sizes only used by GM. Not the rest of the world. There's no such thing as a 5/8 NTP fitting on planet Earth. (NTP is interchangeable with NTFP, the first just requires sealant).

GM sure has some Asshole engineers. So to use this cooler off label. I have to use slip fit adapters for $18 each. Or second option...... flare the cut off sections of factory line I got with the cooler. Run hose off those.

This cooler came off a 94 chevy 3/4 ton suburban. It's the same size as B&M's $100 24k cooler. I paid $5 bucks for this one....buts it freaking 5/8" NTFP. Later model slip fit coolers come with 1/2" NTFP slip fit. I couldn't find one of those as big as this cooler.

Damn GM, cut a guy a break....

Are you certain on the pipe fittings? 5/8" NPT would be absolutely huge for a cooler line, in addition to that size not actually existing. I think it's actually 5/16" tube to probably a 3/8" NPT? Kinda hard to tell from a photo with no size reference, but I'd bet it's either 1/4" or 3/8" NPT. Put a ruler across the threads in the cooler, if the threads are a touch over a half inch, it's 1/4" NPT. If they're 5/8", it's 3/8" NPT. 1/2" NPT would measure almost 7/8", likely not going to be that big.

    Yes Sir'

    Here's the slip fit part. It's a weird 5/8". My dreams of a simple 5/8" npt with a 5/16" barb...blew up...

I said 94 suburban. It was missing half the front end. But it had the flat plastic rectangle head lights. Anyway, this is the part:

Item # 4209, Steel Quick Connector 3/8" Tube x 5/8" NPTF GM Trucks S/T, C/K, Astro, Safari with Body '1998 - Up On FMSI

I have no clue Wth a s/t is or what c/k means.

    Heres the line

Imagine an engineer at GM. Designing parts. One day his boss says, "We need a trans cooler!" He replies in GM engineer fashion, "Groovy man! Yeah! I can dig it, Bro!"

But instead of looking in an engineer book of industry standard fittings....

He's makes shit up like 5/8"....tells the fabrication department, "check it out man, I just invented shit up as I went along, bro"... "hell yeah, I'm the bomb, Yo'." "I need 500,000 made"....

Company proprietary parts are used by all auto manufacturers. They see it as a way to sell parts at the dealership for huge markup. I have been following this and you are doing one heck of a job. Hell, I may get the Porsche up on the roticery and do some welding and lead work....

As low as it go's. I'm gonna have to grunt the tranny onto the jack. Under the car in the trans tunnel. Her rocker panel is 21" off the floor. Tranny bell housing is about 17" tall. It's scoot around in under the car....Or jack it up another 10" in the air. So I choose door #1. Grunt snatching 160# of metal onto the jack.

Ill install the converter when the tranny is on the jack and stable.

Drive side top side bolt. The fire wall had to dented to get it out. Then it's a bitch to reach. Too loose for a wrench, too tight to get two fingers on it. This one bolt was the only pain. It was an easy transmission pull. Lord knows I've seen worse...a lot worse

This may or may not help, but you might be able to loosen the motor mounts and rock the engine back with a jack to help with access to the trans bolts. Also excellent job.

Remove the trans mount and jack the trans up against the trans tunnel.
Take that bolt out first and put it in last.
You need maybe 1 thread clearance.

Be careful letting the motor/trans hang on the motor mounts only.
The oil pressure sending unit will get crushed against the fire wall.

If you get a bolt like that hard to reach - turn, slip a length of twine around the threads, pull tight and then turn in direction needed works for loosing or tightening a bolt those last two or three threads.

Yeah, I noticed the sending unit. Mines still has an inch to go before hitting the firewall. Guess the motor mounts are in good shape...cuz with the tranny hanging for a week. The long black cover on the sender is still in one piece....I think..lol

I found a newish sender at pick and pull. Some late model fleet van. Looked like it had a commercial tune up. New wires, plugs, and an oil pressure sending unit. Vortex motor...and really clean looking to be at a metal recycler that charges folks to pick the cars clean before they send them to the smelter or China...

That one is a 72. The 71 is in the shed. The roticerrie was built by my son. We welded it up after doing the layout and the lift is a couple of hand cranked winches from Harbour Freight.
That's the hard core stuff. Those car rotisserie things are badass! Beats laying on your back having mig sparks popping you in the face, neck, down your shirt sleeve!!!

    What year of Porsche???
