It's the classic politician's response that can be sent out to both sides of the fence without committing anything...."you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind as policy changes are considered in the coming weeks. "

I believe that Senator Cornyn is up for re-election in the 2014 Election. We need for him to give a written "Yes" or "No" on where he stands on the issue.

I also wrote him but no answer as of yet, however in the past on various issues he has always been guarded or if you like political two step answers. I've always viewed him as slightly better then Kay Baily but certain not a true conservative.

Got exactly the same form letter. What pi$$es me off is I wrote Cornyn to oppose any and all gun control efforts. I made no mention of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

I asked him to to respond to specific calls for gun gun control by Feinstein/Schumer/Obama/Biden/Brady ...

Crickets.

I get a form letter that makes no effort to address my concerns.

It is high time to repeal the 17th Amendment to the United States Constitution and have United States Senators once again be appointed by the State Legislatures as originally envisioned by the founding fathers.

The Progressive Movement has infected every aspect of our Civil Society for the sole purpose of subverting the Constitution and bringing us closer to a Socialist Utopia.

They don't read all those thousands of messages themselves. They have staff that does it due to volume and time constraints.

The staff decide what gets elevated beyond a form letter, and the Senators/Reps get a summary of what's coming in.

You could always call his office to see if you could get a better / different response. Remember these guys are flooded right now over 2A concerns just like the manufacturers.

I just received the following email today from Senator Cornyn:

Thank you for contacting me regarding federal firearms laws. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.

As a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, I believe it is essential to safeguard the law-abiding citizen's constitutional right to own and use firearms designed for legitimate purposes such as hunting, target shooting, collecting, and self-protection. Restricting this right runs counter to the intent of our Founding Fathers, who expressly guaranteed that citizens would retain the right to keep and bear arms.

It is encouraging that the Supreme Court has upheld the will of our Founders and re-affirmed the ideals our country was established upon. The Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Hellerprovides a greater guarantee that Americans' Constitutional rights remain secure from federal government intrusion. I was proud to sign an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in that case stating an individual’s right to bear arms is fundamental. This historic ruling continues to have implications far beyond the District of Columbia. In 2010, the Supreme Court decided in McDonald v. City of Chicagoto strike down the arbitrary gun ban in Chicago—and thereby affirm that the Second Amendment safeguards against state and local encroachments on the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

As a former Texas Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General, I have firsthand knowledge of crime-fighting policies that work, and I believe that citizens' Second Amendment rights should not be restricted because of the actions of criminals. Rather, we must focus our attention on the source of violent crime: criminals who use firearms to commit crimes. I believe that strictly enforcing the law—and meting out tougher sentences for career criminals and those who use firearms when committing crimes—will reduce crime more effectively than gun or equipment bans, which primarily serve to take firearms away from law-abiding citizens.

I appreciate the opportunity to represent Texans in the United States Senate, and you may be certain that I will continue working with my colleagues to protect our Second Amendment rights. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

I dont like this part of his repsonse

"I believe it is essential to safeguard the law-abiding citizen's constitutional right to own and use firearms designed for legitimate purposes such as hunting, target shooting, collecting, and self-protection"

Seems like he is parroting the MSM about what they think the 2A is about.

Yeah this is a lame evasive e-mail. He doesn't want to be commit to any sort of answer and wait and see what others are thinking. It's a copy/paste email for most of these people, but usually they will add in their own take on the topic. Fortunately, my congressman (I think his name is Carter) in Williamson County expressed his support for the 2A! That makes me feel a bit better.
