The Cardinals don't seem to bother my tomatoes, but the Mockingbirds and these pesky fellows do a number on them. One tomato worm can devastate a large tomato plant almost over night.

The wife made zucchini pickles yesterday ...

    Alpaca poop FTW

She entered these guys in the State Fair of Texas and won a first place ribbon!
I may crack open a jar in a few minutes.

Her Black-eyed peas placed 2nd and her papaya-raspberry jam received honorable mention.

    Woop!

    Those zucchini pickles look awesome!

We're experimenting with some different recipes. They're mostly hot though. Thai chilies, pearl onions, fresh dill and garlic go into all. No sweet pickles. We always get tons of okra from the garden.

    From left to right:
    - Fresnos
    - Hot pickled okra (favorite)
    - Whole pickled cucumbers
    - Sliced pickled cucumbers
    - Jalapeños

The last two seasons we have been growing and making enough to last an entire year.

Pulled up the tomatoes and planted fall broccoli last week. Need to get some pics...

You are correct. I forgot about the iron problem my soil is iron rich and nitrogen poor. Just put some 21-0-0 that should help.

Piss on it. Dilute pee 1:5 with water. If you piss the ground directly, slow water the spot to dilute.

Thanks I have found them online. Are they like other potatoes that you have to get seed potatoes or can you buy them at a local grocery

On another note; yesterday I aquired some mushroom soil. It is supposed to be really good. I know some small commercial growers who use it with good results. Anybody tried it.

You can just buy some organic sweet potatoes at the grocery store or farmers market and throw them in water. They start growing shoots you can pull off and root in water within a few weeks.

Storm last night nearly blew over my jalapeño plant. Thing got so big this year looked like a dwarf tree.

Picked what was left of the jalapeños and the fresnos.

Last of the jalapeños for the season right here:

No all my dove hunts have fallen through. Family and two leases. Really crappy circumstances. I have a new over/under that I haven't even shot yet! It's killing me.

I've given up on doves this year. But I have a new crossbow and I'll hopefully get a few deer this year on some family land in the South zone.

Sucks being way up in Ft Worth and having family land so far away. I need to just buy some land up here somewhere closer.

I understand that. I'm in a similar boat. My schedule with work is insane and my family that I hunt with is in DFW and I live in SA.
