I'm guessing you were using a 1911 that had been in service in the military for about 60 years with constant use before you got it. Can't say I've ever shot a 1911 that wasn't insanely accurate.

1911's have been around for over 100 years because they are made of steel. Glocks and their like will be in the recycle bin along with the other discarded plastics long before that.
