I have decided to go all out with my Savage 110 BA rifle and it needs legs.

Ofcourse the name Atlas comes to mind for bipods. I have found a somewhat local supplier for them and am going to check them out tomorrow.

But the question begs, are there any other bipods I should be looking at?

I know Harris makes some higher end models but do they compare to an Atlas?

I have run through the cheap ones and they just do not fit this platform. I want something above and beyond the $50 or so market. I want something high quality.

What do y'all think I should look at besides an Atlas? And obviously I am willing to spend a little money on it.

    Thanks for your input.

Do you really need the features of the atlas (and added cost)? Like the independant leg operation.
Ive had harris and it worked just fine

    Bag > bipod

Bags slide smoother than bipods and contribute to less muzzle effect from it. I have had my cheapies cause all sorts of muzzle movement issues. That is why I want a good bipod. I want a nice rearward slide movement, not a jump.

Loosening the springs on a Harris helps but the movement is still a somewhat circular movement.

I enjoy the convenience of a bipod.

I also know that varying the pressure put on the bipod can effect POI, so I can see how a bag could be considered better in some situations. It also provides some cover.

Bipods might be easier to use in certain shooting conditions.

I'm watching this post. I just picked up a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in .308 with a 16.5" bbl. I have a coupla bipods from Academy ( the X__ something something brand) which seem to work well. Would like to know the differences, good, bad & ugly of other bipods.......best bang for the buck kinda thing

The store I am going to tomorrow has a few different Atlas bipods so I am sure they have some other options as well. I plan on checking out whatever they have and will report back on my findings.

Atlas just came out with their new version, looks sweet, I like how you don't have to have an adapter to fit a rail, and they swivel left to right. I have a Harris notched and its sweet also, but together it swing left to right I would have to get a different adapter.

Also a bipod on a smooth hard bench doesn't work as well as a front rest or bag.

You seem pretty schooled in the bipod arts.

How's about a thread on what to look for, pros/cons, when to go bipod, when a bag would be better?

I'm sure you have nothing better to do, lol.

Any recommendations on which feet work best for general use? Most come with rubber feet but Atlas has many options including sliders, spikes, and steel.

I like the idea of spikes for digging in even on a wood bench. Any drawbacks to them or is it best to have multiple feet onhand?

Get the spikes. They should get great traction when resting across the hood of the truck.
