    .44 Mag seems to be the gun of choice from seeing what most people come in with at work. It's alot cheaper than the bigger S&W Mags and yet it is plenty good out to 100 yards.

    Yep, the 44 is the easy choice. Mine worked great in the field on a large pig.

    He was shooting at 300 yards with a .45 Linebaugh at steel with irons. The guy was pretty damn good!
    Maybe that is the guy that I was thinking of, but I could have sworn that there was another thread about hand gun hunting where a guy claimed 1,000 yard shots with a 44 and got flamed for it.

    I was thinking about getting a 44 Mag, but I just found out that I can get a good deal on a 45LC. Would that be good for whitetails in Texas out to about 50 yards or so?

    The 45 Colt would be an excellent choice also. What kind are you looking at? I have a Ruger that I got back from the gunsmith. That reminds me, I need to get it to the range.
