HB 2744 Surprise out of Committee raises age to 21 for semi-auto rifles

HB2744 which will raise the age for the purchase of "certain" semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21 was passed out of Committee today in a surprise vote. Two Rhinos caved making the vote 8 - 5.

This crap was supposed to just sit there dead in committee.

SECTION 1. Sections 46.06(a), (c), and (d), Penal Code, are amended to read as follows:
(a) A person commits an offense if the person:
….
(2) intentionally or knowingly sells, rents, leases, or gives or offers to sell, rent, lease, or give:
(A) to a [any] child younger than 18 years of age a [any firearm,] club, [or] location-restricted knife, or firearm other than a semiautomatic rifle described by Paragraph (B); or
(B) to a person younger than 21 years of age a semiautomatic rifle that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine and that has a caliber greater than .22;

Interesting thing is , a .22 lr round is 5.6 mm. Same as a .223. But an AR chambered in 5.56………….
