Reboot is about the only thing I could think of tryin' - ain't much of a 'puter guru.....but you might try Wolfie. Just texted him and asked for him to take a look at this string.

To be honest, as cheaply as these things are built nowadays, I suspect it's a mechanical issue w/the board itself. Thought I had a spare one here, but apparently I gave it to someone already, sorry. Just got a reply from Wolfie...he's on it...

what needs to happen is some more trouble shooting.

    here's how:

if you have a thumb drive install a live linux OS like Ubuntu, or Damn Small Linux.

boot from USB - by selecting boot menu on your Dell boot screen. usually it is F12 for boot menu.

boot from the usb drive (be sure you have it plugged in before you reboot so your bios will see it)

then see if your keyboard works.

if it does, it is windows and you need to backup your files and reinstall for a quick fix.

if it doesnt, try ebay.coma and get a new keyboard for your laptop. give me $50 and i'll replace it for you.

I am going back to bed.

    merry christmas

I've had something similar happen in the past. There's a keyboard command (escapes me now what it is) but it turns on the vocal recognition. You can shut off the voice recognition in the control panel...not saying for sure, but it sure seems similar.

Have you tried another keyboard? It is probably a single conductor broken on the keyboard. There are x number conductors going cross ways and y number of conductors going up and down. Depending on what key is pressed connects x&y sensing the key being depressed. The problem is not in cabling or signaling if wireless. Is possible that you have a bad keyboard controller in the computer but not a likely. Have seen a problem with a bad keyboard driver before. Been messing with computers since 1976 with 110 baud modems, teletypes, paper tape and fat fingering. My how things have changed.

First try a USB keyboard, cheap. I use a wireless keyboard on my laptop when I'm using it in the shop or office. Could be just needs the cables reconnected inside.
