    The other nazi power ...

JUPITER — An overgrown lawn could cost a homeowner $1,000 a day.

A plan to quadruple the penalty from the current maximum of $250 per day for a first violation is scheduled for consideration at Tuesday night's town council meeting.

A repeat violation by the same person would be boosted to $5,000 a day maximum from $500 per day.

    Why is it so tiring?

What term would you prefer since you seem to be the Name Nazi?

How do HOA's enforce this sh*t again? I would just tell them to go F off and send me all the letters they wanted to. Why do they even exist? They seem to be an awful lot like nazi's to be misused as well.
So TI why don't you enlighten us simple minded peasants that obviously could never reach your level of intelligence, exactly how the term is being misused.

My HOA had a dispute with another home owner about the color of improvments she made to her front walk way and porch. To make a long story short, nobody was right if everybody was wrong. The association blew $30,000.00 of the associations money in legal fees and the home owner spent $10,000.00 defending herself. I concluded that it was all about control for both parties. HOA's play an important role in maintaining property values, but are sometimes out of control bullies and you can't just tell them to F off. Since them I have really paid attention to who we elect to run things.

So many people pay so little attention to what they're signing when they submit to homeowners' association CC&Rs. Watch out! I'd never submit to that , not for one second! Can't imagine why anyone would?

One solution - get elected to the HOA board. Unfortunately, many of these boards are made up almost entirely of busybodies with nothing better to do than snoop on others and throw their weight around, just because they can. For those that say "Don't live in a place that has a HOA", well, that's easier said than done. It's just about impossible to find a subdivision anywhere in my area that doesn't have one.

I've been to a few meetings and it got crazy. One guy on the board wanted all new paint jobs on houses to be brown. The same guy moved out of the neighborhood, but still owned a rent house, and wanted to stay on the board. The rules did not prevent it, but a lot of people felt we'd be better served by actual residents.

I showed up to both meetings, voted no, and will say this ... follow the rules, read the newsletter, and show up when you need to.

True, in some states now it's becoming harder and harder to find a home in a neighborhood that doesn't have them, but it's worth the extra drive or whatever to secure a home--on the fringes of the city usually with land if necessary--that is free and clear of these b.s. rules. I knew when I bought my house that the only association rule concerns keeping trees cut for ocean views. Now that I can accept.

BTW, Professor Walter Williams wrote an editorial piece about this some months ago that opened my eyes to why this has happened. If anyone gives a rat's patootie I can write out the essence of what he said, but I don't want to type it all out unless it's worth it.

My HOA fees are $358.00 a month and yes, that sucks more than a liberal registering to vote but this is what I get among other things.
    Free basic cable.
    No water bill
Great trash service (they take everything I leave).
I mow no lawns and trim no trees.
I only have to insure things inside my house.
I reported a roof leak on a Monday morning and had a new roof that Monday night.
    Two pools.
    Two full time grounds men.
    Nice clean area.
I live in The Galleria area yet there's never traffic in front of my house.
    Etc, etc, etc.
My point is that there is value in these fees and I knew about them when I bought my house.
