I went hog hunting last night for the first time ever, my sole piece of amateur advice would be bring enough gun .
+1. I have executed many hogs in my traps by shooting them behind the ear with a .22 LR, but I recommend using something with some punch if you don't want to be tracking 'em. I carry an AR15 in 6.8SPC on my Rhino when I work on my ranch, and I've used it to dispatch many of the porkers. A 50-cal Beowulf isn't necessary, but these pests are pretty tough...
