Collapses are hard to time. They are often triggered by perpendicular events.
We all know the USSR was going to crash, we did not know it would start with Estonia.
We all knew civil rights was going to happen, we just did know a woman on a bus would be the trigger.
etc.
To those who express resentment of baby-boomers retiring: Maybe all we old pharts should liquidate our assets and leave our young ones nothing. If they resent us anyway then we should spend that cash on a last hurrah or two. If the (adult) kiddos are so ungrateful then they don't need (deserve) their inheritance.
Got a chip on your shoulder or what? Nobody resents anybody retiring in this thread. How you come to that conclusion is beyond me. I am a BB and I am retiring in 18 months.
I was a giver since age 15. I suppose when you retire the youth of your time will be just as resentful as you are. Frankly, I don't give a rats behind what you think. I sent you and all your little friends to school. Mm-kay?
Not openly expressed but definitely insinuated, e.g. calling retirees "takers" and insinuating that we're financial burdens to society. ...
I don't think you're takers. I think you were lied to.
If the $$ was set aside in a separate retirement fund things would be a little better, but it was blown. Now Social Security retirement is funded by those of us who won't get our money back.
If anyone should be touchy it should be us younger folks.
I don't blame older folks though - I blame the lying, sorry, SOBs in DC. I blame FDR for threatening to stack the court, and the weak SCOTUS and legislature of the time for not standing up for what was right.
You shouldn't feel bad for accepting what was promised to you, but if you were about to be screwed like us then you may have something to actually bitch about.
This type of division is exactly what they want. Screw them. We need to stay united as people.
Turn your back on them and forge your own path. Make them irrelevant in your life.
I know SS won't be around so I plan around that and move on. I feel sorry for those who are planning on it being there - who never planned differently. They're going to be hit hard.

We are on the brink of collapse as I type this and the knot heads in Washington keep spending at historic rates. If we can get the bloodbath of costs trimmed down, we may hang on for a while but as soon as we begin to default on our debts, our ass is cooked.
There is absolutely nothing supporting the US Dollar but faith in the US as a nation and that has been soundly pissed upon.
The US gold reserves would not even put a DENT in our national debt even if every ounce of it was sold. Worse, if that kind of huge sale was held, gold prices would plummet making our plight even worse.
No...we are screwed. I hope I'm wrong but doubt that seriously. Default will come and the house of cards will crash....soon.
