Collapses are hard to time. They are often triggered by perpendicular events.

We all know the USSR was going to crash, we did not know it would start with Estonia.

We all knew civil rights was going to happen, we just did know a woman on a bus would be the trigger.

    etc.

I'm willing to bet amnesty would be a good tipping point

To those who express resentment of baby-boomers retiring: Maybe all we old dying pharts should liquidate our assets and leave our young ones nothing. If they resent us anyway then we should spend that cash on a last hurrah or two. If the (adult) kiddos are so ungrateful then they don't need (deserve) their inheritance.

I 100% recognize that no one knows the answer and I think BHO and most big gov types are content with just managing the decline so the appropriate groups are controlled and other groups profit.

When China starts park I their new (old Russian) carrier at hot spots around the world, people worldwide might start pulling out of the US economically.

Got a chip on your shoulder or what? Nobody resents anybody retiring in this thread. How you come to that conclusion is beyond me. I am a BB and I am retiring in 18 months.

Not openly expressed but definitely insinuated, e.g. calling retirees "takers" and insinuating that we're financial burdens to society. What should we do... roll over and die? If that's what our society wants then I'll leave nothing in my wake for the young ones to "sponge from" as is the insinuation that we worthless old folk are apparently seen as (sponges). It's a two-way street and we old geezers paid our dues... and then some.

I was a giver since age 15. I suppose when you retire the youth of your time will be just as resentful as you are. Frankly, I don't give a rats behind what you think. I sent you and all your little friends to school. Mm-kay?

You dont know what youre talking about or to whom you are responding. Fall back or find a different thread.

I don't think you're takers. I think you were lied to.

If the $$ was set aside in a separate retirement fund things would be a little better, but it was blown. Now Social Security retirement is funded by those of us who won't get our money back.

If anyone should be touchy it should be us younger folks.

I don't blame older folks though - I blame the lying, sorry, SOBs in DC. I blame FDR for threatening to stack the court, and the weak SCOTUS and legislature of the time for not standing up for what was right.

You shouldn't feel bad for accepting what was promised to you, but if you were about to be screwed like us then you may have something to actually bitch about.

Good point. The way the system was set up was flawed from the beginning.

This type of division is exactly what they want. Screw them. We need to stay united as people.

Turn your back on them and forge your own path. Make them irrelevant in your life.

I know SS won't be around so I plan around that and move on. I feel sorry for those who are planning on it being there - who never planned differently. They're going to be hit hard.

And the ever expanding government will be there to "catch" them.

For those preppers out there...being debt free and having marketable skills are about the most important things you can do to prep. I know, it's not sexy.

If you have 100000 rounds of 556 but your family gets evicted how will that help you? Especially when everyone else is broke too? You really think day one there gonna be some barter society to buy your house back with MREs?

I wish people would THINK ahead. A lot of the pain and misery can be avoided if people would use common sense and some balance in their planning for the future.

Talking about paying a mortgage after hyperinflation hits is interesting. I saw a McDs in ATX pays $8.75 to start. Dems want what $10 minimum wage? Each time the socialists drive up wages and you dont get a raise youre making less money in terms of purchasing power.

I know each generation shakes their heads at how bad things are getting. Im sure in 1941 when Hitler was walking all over Europe they felt things had certainly got bad.

I respect each generation has its struggles. I suppose I am terribly concerned about the next few generations more than mine.

We are on the brink of collapse as I type this and the knot heads in Washington keep spending at historic rates. If we can get the bloodbath of costs trimmed down, we may hang on for a while but as soon as we begin to default on our debts, our ass is cooked.

There is absolutely nothing supporting the US Dollar but faith in the US as a nation and that has been soundly pissed upon.

The US gold reserves would not even put a DENT in our national debt even if every ounce of it was sold. Worse, if that kind of huge sale was held, gold prices would plummet making our plight even worse.

No...we are screwed. I hope I'm wrong but doubt that seriously. Default will come and the house of cards will crash....soon.

    Well, **** it then.

I'm gonna quit my job, get on the .gov salary, and spend my free time digging foxholes, trenches, and tunnels around the perimeter.

As I tell all the young guys at work who are just starting their working careers as I approach the end of mine: Don't blame me for your declining standard of living, I was a TEA Party member and supporter from the beginning. If you wish to apportion blame, here's what I consider the list to be in descending order of culpability: Democrats and the people who voted for them> RINOs and the people who voted for them > Republicans (don't blame the people who voted Republican, they didn't have any other options). I don't know if we're going to suffer a collapse or a decline in our economy...history shows us that many empires have risen and fallen throughout history and the countries still exist today. What is most likely going to happen is that people who have saved for a "rainy day" will survive somewhat intact, those that haven't will riot and loot as entitlement programs are pared back. The U.S.A. will survive, albeit in a somewhat reduced state, whether you survive the coming decline, whether it's 3 years from now or 30 will depend on what you're doing right now.
