Wow, that was a close one. I was about to go out for a walk around the property here at work - then i heard a strange popping sound followed by a screech.

About that time i see a big black mass, possibly a dog hauling ass from 35, about he time i realize it isnt a dog, a fucking semi tire, complete with wheel and a chunk of axle still attached.

The son of a bitch sheared off and came bounding across 35, broke part of a tree, came through the front of the parking lot and slammed into a small bit of brick right outside between the front glass door, and a tempered glass side window. with enough force to flex the glass in, but it didn't break any glass.

    here are some pictures.

the wheel/tire did some magic bullet shit to the tree, broke off a branch away from the highway, but where it cleary struck the tree, is just scraped.

no video, but here are some pics...

    Glad your GTG Wolf.

I keep as much distance as possible from trucks, especially older ones. Always pass quickly and I'm never on the outside of one going around a corner at speed.

^^^^^ now that is the best advice i have seen in a long time,
It can happen to any big truck. I drive a 04 pete tanker. Pass me or stay back,
Cause if a inside dual blows out at 70+ mph its takin the other with it.

Trucker here. Please stay away. I'm governed at 66. Pass me. Don't stay on side of truck. You would be surprised at how many do.
Glad you are ok. Bet that woke you up better then coffee!

Could you determine which direction (North or South) the truck was going? Betcha' there is an truck out there on the shoulder somehere close.

south, one of our guests saw it trailing sparks about half a mile downt he highway. will keep an eye out for it on the way home @ 11, but will probably be gone by then

Looks like it's off of a half ton pickup. As mentioned, he's likely still on the road nearby. Interesting how the brake caliper sheared off the rotor. That axle appears to be a clean, fresh brake. I wonder if he was running spacers or had loose lug nuts to make it come off suddenly like that.

It looks military. Well, the tire does but the rim and bolt pattern doesn't much.

Glad you and everyone else is ok.

too soon to say that, everyone i'm responsible for is fine, but for all i know the driver could be smoldering in a ditch out of sight from my position.
    hope not though!

i'll get a pic of the other side of the rim, doubt it was military- but you can tell better than i.

Glad your ok! That could have ruined your day!
I'm fortunate that when my big brother taught me to drive, he stressed how to navigate around semi, trucks with trailers, etc.....I get wound up watching others drive these days! Between the idiot car drivers...the unsafe dump trucks...and the handful of stupid "trucker" (not talking about all, just the ones who have no respect, or sense) I fear driving on the freeways!

That's a Toyo open country mt tire. Looks like at least a 35. Take it off the rim and sell it. Can prob get $200 for it if tread is good.
