I have permanent firearms related hearing loss. From talking to the specialist I see for the problem it happened in my youth when I would shoot at doves with a shotgun without hearing protection. I didn't begin to notice the effects until past my 50th birthday. The specialist recommended a hearing aide that I have put off looking into but I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to do that. I learned a difficult lesson and strongly recommend that everyone always wear hearing protection when firing any weapon.and shot my .45 today without hearing protection, putting about 100 rounds through it. I was outside and its been about 4-5 hours and the ringing is still pretty bad but i can hear a little better. any suggestions on what I should do? and does anyone know if this would be permanent or not?
How can you guys shoot without protection on your ears?? Last time I forgot to put mine on I only got one shot off from a 38. That was some pain. I forget occasionally, but the first round is a painful reminder.
well mine are good :P do they have ones that are electronic and the same size as foams? what if you are gettin return can you hear that or does it cut it out? i know they say you can hear people talk i just never tried one.
Fun fact I remembered this morning - there's a reason why hearing loss is the most common disability among veterans.
Nothing personal but you and all the others blasting the F to everyone else who doesn't want to hear your stereos earned poor hearing. Deal with it and don't complain.
Thank youI wish you a full recovery. If the problem persists, I would seek a physician.
Electronics are always (AFAIK) muffs.
lol, no i think that would be considered cruel or something. my point was, everyone is going ape shit over a one time thing. i guess, i understand why though, to stress the importance. ah well.
Ok so everyone is saying the ringing should go away after a few days since this was my first incident. What about my hearing? When people talk it sounds like im wearing ear muffs but im not, will that go away after a few days? And also i noticed last night that i couldnt hear my car beep when i lock/unlock it bc of the certain frequency i guess. And this morning i checked it and i can hear it now but it sounds a little different
They make ear plug ones too. I've got a pair of them along with the electronic muffs as well.
link me! i might look into gettin a few for my unit. most likely a pair for me thoughm
What an incredibly rude response. I suppose you never did anything in high school that you later regretted.
No, I've never made the mistake of jamming my music down the ears of those who'd rather not hear it month after month. I find that disturbing of my peace incredibly rude. Mind you I'm not referring to your current position however, I stand by my previous comment. What an incredibly rude response. I suppose you never did anything in high school that you later regretted.
