We do not know why the jury acquitted. It could be the jury did not find the state met the burden of proof, and have nothing to do with the self defense issue. It could be the jury found reasonable doubt on the self defense issue, requiring an acquittal.

An acquittal does not necessarily mean that they believed the defendant justified.
